Currently the available embedded parameters are only read from the top level of the device definition. I have a device definition for NI pro53 that has the parameters organised into sub-folders and only the folder names are displayed. The picture should illustrate what I’m describing.
Mart.
Beta3 is uploaded. Just one new feature, which is neat though:
Added a zoom slider to the mixer toolbar. This will zoom the widths of the strips from 100% to 200%. Removed the obsolete “minimum strip width” setting from the mixer properties.
The zoom slider is a quick way to enlarge the strips so that for example the embedded zPEQ curves are more detailed and easier to edit.
Next on my schedule is adding functionality to the zPEQ display, so that you don’t need to open the editor to enable bands. For example: Double-clicking in the display should enable the next unused band with freq and gain set to the clicked point. Clicking anywhere in the display should grab the nearest band. Right-clicking should show a menu for selecting band type.
I’ll get back to the bug reports in this topic later on.
Good morning. It’s nice the mixer zoom 🙂 I’d like that meters were scaled too, and volume faders keep at the left of each strip when zooming. I consider it more classy.

I hope this doesn’t mean that the nearest handle is going to jump to the clicked position if you accidentally click the EQ miniature. Other than that I’m looking forward to the upcoming improvements!
The embedded parameter name and value text overlap when you zoom the strips enough so that they’re displayed on one line.

Also, setting a minimum strip width in the mixer seems to disable the Collapse button (in the mixer only).
Okay scratch that. I had the “Expand all groups” option ticked on the mixer drop down menu…

It will be a nice addition as it will add a further layer of ease to Podium while also spotlighting the ZPEQ at the same time. Also the zoom slider is as slick as it gets, very smooth indeed in use. I think LP spoke about wider meters in another thread maybe that can be considered now that Podium can so easily offer wider strips..
However….
What about this from the 2.21 thread… ?????
“I’m now going to start on the main 2.21 feature, which will be a new track toolbar. In the default setup it will sit right below the navigator. I’m considering several new toolbar elements, such as: New track, Marker lane toggle, Tempo lane toggle, global bounce/solo/mute/record buttons, and a new “track filter bar” which will behave similar to the 2.20 editor profile bar. More about that later”
Of specific interest is the “global bounce/solo/mute/record buttons” I also think the rest of the Track toolbar features will fit in very well and add to Podiums workflow features as well.
But what happened to all of those plans? (Based on your own comments) I thought it would surface in 2.21, then 2.22 then 2.23 now it looks like its fallen off the radar for 2.24 as well. Have you abandoned the idea or is it part of the scope for 2.24?

It’s not abandoned. I just shifted priorities around. I thought that it would be best to get the new track header layout sorted out, before I started adding another feature layer on top of it. And then in the 2.23 preview topic discussion, the consensus was that it would be best to migrate the new layout to the mixer, for consistency. And that’s why I’m currently working on the mixer. I’ll get back to the track toolbar eventually.

Ok thanks! 🙂

Wider meters will require a bit of work, so that will come in a later release.
The fader and meter share the meter dB markings. The translucent fader slides on top of the markings so that you can use the dB markings as hints for what the fader dB value is. If the fader is moved to the left edge, you would lose that link.
Ok, thx for explanation! I suggest ideas but i ignore all the complexy involved. Do them if ypu consider they’re good and posible 🙂
Beta4:
Made several changes to the appearance and mouse actions of the zPEQ editor:
The embedded rack and mixer editors will not show the parameter fields, but will instead show a popup with info for the band closest to the mouse cursor.
The curve is drawn centered around 0dB.
Moving the mouse in the display will highlight the nearest band handle.
Double-click the background to enable the next unused band.
Double-click a band handle to disable the band.
Right-click to show a band type menu for the nearest band.
Click to drag frequency and gain of the nearest band.
Alt+Click to drag the Q value of the nearest band.
Before this update I never used zPEQ, now that it’s my default EQ I found something very confusing: the colours. When you mix diferent filters (parametric, LP, BP…) the colours doesn’t help at all: They difficult my vision. If you think this is ok, please consider this small change:
Now that the zoom slider is available I would like to increase the size of the text in the mixer.
Its a bit too small but was just about barely acceptable without the zoom control (although at times it looks like there is some sort of additional font smoothing going on causing a slight fuzziness) anyway where can I find that option to increase / decrease the the font size please? It used to be in the Mixer options but I can’t find it there anymore.
Where has it been moved to???
Hey Frits,
some wishes for zPEQ: it would be nice to have some values for gain and phase angle on the y-axis in the curve. Probably just for the full-size editor. Also a small graphical switch for the phase curve would be nice. The EQ would be more useable this way while gaining a more “professional look” 🙂
Another thing (which is probably general problem): If the EQ is deleted (Alt+Click) and one uses the undo function to bring it back, all EQ-settings are lost.

Yeah, restoring plug-in settings works only when you undo deletion of a track, it seems. It’d be very nice to have the information necessary to retrieve such settings also stored with the undo/redo function for unassigning/reassigning plug-ins!
Here’s a little more difficult suggestion: When you double-click somewhere to activate a band, it jumps right to the cursor position. That makes it impossible to toggle bands on/off for a quick comparison in the mini-editor. How about changing this so a band stays at its last position upon (re-)activating it, and only follows the cursor if you still hold the mouse button to drag it after the double-click.
Another thing that could be nice is having zPEQ use Podium’s parameter gradation color for its curve fill instead of text color. Not sure if it’d really help, but may be worth a try, if it’s not too complicated.

That’s exactly the way the EQ looked before 2.24 – you really never used it? 🙂
I think the new curve display makes more sense, but I’m fine with either.
