The latest face-lift, shown with a dark-grey color scheme. The image also shows the new brushed-metal texture that will be all over the next Podium 1.60 release.
I’ve replaced the diffusion module with a new algorithm. The sound quality is hugely improved, at the cost of a slight increase in CPU usage. You’ll notice that there are 16 new parameters for the diffusion delay lines. I spent days trying to tune a golden set of delay times, but this is one of the trickiest secrets to good reverb design. So I decided to let the preset designers be responsible for setting the delay times π
But seriously, a lot of different sound scapes can be modeled by juggling the delay times. There is not a single set of tunings that will fit all purposes. I’ve added a ‘tuning pad’ XY click-pad which allows both randomizing and automatic correction of the delay times so ringing tones can be elliminated.
16 delay parameters! Bloody hell, thought you were keeping it simple lol. It will certianly be a lot of fun to play with now π
Oooh, diggin the metal brush effect too.
Oh btw, why not have a user library for the presets, so if anyone turns out to be adept at tuning the settings they could send in presets themselves? Not that I am volunterring, I am pretty confused myself tbh hehe.
I like the new look Frits.
Can’t wait to try your extensive re-working of zReverb.
1.6 Here we come…
π
First I though, “hmm… that brushed metal texture is kinda hard to see at first”. But still, I feel you’ve hit the contrast balance spot on. Even though the texture is there, it doesn’t scream for attention and therefore doesn’t dominate the GUI.
Simply said, I like it a lot! Nice touch! How did you make the texture? π
About the zReverb:
16 individual delay parameters, intriguing! Can hardly wait until I hear what it sounds like and what it can do π
I noticed you have all 16 delays numbered, except for the one I can see as “Delay 1”. Instead, you call it “Delay time”. Will this be the internal pre-delay for the entire reverb?
Wish you all a pleasant summer 8)

Yeah, I know, I tried my best to avoid it π

If anyone comes up with interesting presets, I can host them on zynewave.com. Maybe even include them as extra fxb bank files in the Podium installer.
I’ve also considered a small competition, perhaps on KvR, where I will give a Podium license to the one that can come up with the best zReverb presets. That way I would also get some presets for the default zReverb bank. You think that’s a good idea?

Not exactly. The delay 1 time defines both the length of the first delay line and also is an offset for the remaining delay lines. Furthermore the room size parameter will also scale the delay times for delay 2-16.
Nice touch! How did you make the texture?

The new zReverb look is better than the previous one IMHO. The parameter values e.t.c are certainly easier to read. Nice.
Quite a complex reverb for your first effort. Well done. π
I think giving away a free license on KVR is a very good idea. While the thread would of course discuss the reverb itself, I think the hosts forum would be a good place to start the thread instead of the KVR effects forum. Maybe this too was your plan.
You might even hint at possibly repeating a free giveaway again when another zPlug surfaces like a compressor.
Of course the aim is not so much to get the presets but to raise Podiums Profile. Competitions certainly have a way of generating interest in a product.
I think a thread headliner title like “Free Podium License” should raise more than a few eyebrows. π
If you do go ahead with this you might want to make the most of their full attention at KVR by running a poll within the same competition thread to find out what plug they would like to see next.
zSampler
zCompressor
zFilter
zChorus
zPhaser
ZLimiter
Why?…because instead of a brief spike in interest at KVR you could maintain that interest a bit longer by at least providing KVR members who might not frequent here with a chance to participate in not only a possible preset reverb competition, but also an opportunity to take part in future competitions of this nature for future zPlugs.
Just a thought… π
oh btw is the texture customisable? that would be well funky. Preset competition sounds a great idea btw.
oh btw is the texture customisable?
The texture will be colored according to the current color scheme. Just like the old ‘ripple’ (toolbar background) and canvas bitmaps.

Ahhh ace, have started using different colours for different projects to differentiate between them, or provide the right mood.
Just tried this baby out. WOW! What a reverb…!
I think the surprisingly high quality of this plug will surprise many new users. Very nice work here Frits. A very high quality reverb, well worth the time and effort spent on it. 8)
