    Hi,

I am using a RME HDSP PC-Card in a Windows 7 Notebook. When I play/record something with ASIO in Podium (Free), the signal/recording is extremely distorted, like it’s subsampled. I have tried several different sample rates and buffer sizes, without success.

So far I have done all my recordings in Linux, so I have very little experience with ASIO and Audio in Windows in general. Any ideas how I might track this problem down? Another information that might be relevant is that when I click on “driver setup” in the podium ASIO settings, nothing happens, so maybe there is some compatibility problem with the ASIO driver…?

    Hi,

I am using the RME HDSP PCI version on a Windows Vista PC. When I click the “driver setup” button, the “Hammerfall DSP Settings” dialog appears. If you haven’t already done so, check RME’s website for updated drivers:

    http://www.rme-audio.de/en_downloads.php

On the HDSP page there are some important notes for Windows 7 installation.

If the speed is wrong in the wav file, then it could be because the sound files are recorded using a different samplerate than the samplerate you have selected in the arrangement properties dialog.

    Hi,

    thanks for the quick reply.

I tried it with the latest driver version (3.0.8.4), didn’t help. ASIO is working fine with other software, though, so it must be some problem between Podium and the driver.

The sample rate is the same, and in any case, the problem is not that the speed is wrong, but that it sounds extremely distorted (like subsampling / aliasing).

PS: the thing with the HDSP settings not appearing is probably because it was already running in the background; if it isn’t, it appears when I click driver setup. So this is most likely unrelated to the problem.

As a test, try to use the Wave driver instead of ASIO, to see if you get the same kind of distortion. You’ll need to set a high buffer size to get Wave driver to work without glitches.

    Wave works fine.

So, if you have an arrangement where you have recorded some distorted sounds with the ASIO driver, and you then switch to the Wave driver, does the arrangement play back fine without distortion?

    Nope, still distorted.

What I also noticed: when I use the ASIO driver, Podium seems to pass through all the input channels to the respective output channels. Is there any way to disable that? And these signals already sound distorted.

I’m using a very old driver for my RME. It has worked flawlessly, so I haven’t had a reason for updating. I’ll try to update to the latest driver version tomorrow, and see if there are problems with it.

Installed 3.084 RME HDSP driver, and it’s working fine.

That’s not something I do in Podium. Have you checked your channel routings and options in the RME mixer?

If still no success, you could try to install the http://www.ASIO4ALL.com driver.
