    Hello everybody,

I am desperate to do something in Podium and i don’t know if i am doing something wrong. I want to do the following:

I have recorded a midi-drumtrack to trigger a sampler (in my case SS4). There are some parts in the take that i would like to fix. In Tracktion for instance, i could set a punch range on the miditrack, then record and i would hear the drumtrack out of the punch-range and when the punch-in starts, the original got muted and i could hear the new track i was playing. In this way i could seamlessly fix drumfills or other mishapps.

In Podium however the punch-range does not get muted while recording. The only way to fix this is trimming the event and muting the part i want to fix. But what is worse, when i record the new part, the notes get ADDED to the muted miditrack and when i unmute it it is a mess.

Is there anyway i can set Podium up to do what i want?

    Hello MelodyMan,

If I understand you correctly, you would like to mute only what is in the puch range as you loop through and record your sequence. Akin to not having an ‘overdub’ mode.

I would have suggested making a child midi track and selecting ‘Use as composite track‘ in its Track Properties dialog. This would mute prior takes within the punch range while always playing back the midi parts on its group track.

Surprisingly, composite tracks don’t operate on midi as it does on audio. Subsequent takes don’t spawn as child tracks, each pass of a loop is written to one sequence event.

Hopefully Frits will shed some light here.

    Hi Levendis,

Thanks for your reply. Your method would be the one to use if it was possible for midi-recording. But sadly, it isn’t (the manual also says so). I am hoping for Fritz to give a workaround for this.

The ideal solution would be to support MIDI loop-recording. Unfortunately, the method used for the audio loop recording cannot be easily applied to MIDI recording. Currently not supported I’m afraid, but definitely on my future list.
