I just got a Virus Ti but it won’t render a bounce unless I do it in realtime. How can set that?

Enable both B and R buttons on the track. Switch on recording mode, and start playback. Once done with the realtime bounce, switch off the R button to play back the bounced recording.

Thanks – works nicely and the Ti VSTi looks made for the default skin šŸ™‚

Is there any chance of making this an option in future so when you rightclick and select bounce to track it can be done in realtime without having to arm various buttons and stuff?

    thanks

This is perhaps off topic, but…

It has already been requested, but perhaps that a simple Render command will simplify a lot when we want to… simply render an arrangement.

    Actually we need to :
    – activate bounce on the master track
    – draw an empty event to the length of the project
    – in the properties of this empty event, choose the bit depth and the channels (it is not memorized), and of course the name
    – run offline bounce (there is no visible choice or option for another way)
    – save the sound because Podium has created only a temporary file
    – delete the bounced sound
    – de-activate the bounce on the master track

    It could be instead :
    – choose the Render command in the File Arrangement menu (behind Export Midifile)
    – choose the bit depth (project’s default, memorized) and the channels, the name (the arrangement’s name by default) and the path (all memorized)
    – there is an option to render the whole arrangement or the current time selection (last option memorized)
    – a check box for offline or realtime (last option memorized)
    – render… it’s all (the final file is directly written on disc)
When I was doing this in Vegas or Nuendo, it needed only to press the keyboard shortcut to open the dialog box, type the name, and press Return…

Of course, it will not replace the current bounce feature which is very nice, just add a simpler and faster way to do for the final rendering.
People will not need to search in the manual or in the Wiki to find how to do because it is rather self explainatory (and it is also the way other DAWs do).

Not off topic at all – that’s exactly what I what in mind too.

tbh I still don’t really understand the function of the master track that bounces get rendered into. I don’t get why it’s always a fixed length and why it can’t automatically set itself to the same length as what I’ve just recorded. You’d think it would be obvious that if I’ve just recorded a midi track of a certain length that normally I would want to render it all unless I chose otherwise, and certainly wouldn’t want to render just some arbitrary chunk of it.

Also I don’t get why it’s so hard to change the length of it manually. Often it won’t drag out all the way on the first attempt – it only goes as far as the Window edge so you have to go to the scroolbar at the bottom and move the track along and then drag out a bit more of the master track – so fiddly. And grabbing the red and green selection bars or whatever they are at the top is even harder. I think you have to change tools for each of them and again they only go so far at a time and since one covers the other you have to do each in turn.

This whole aspect could be improved considerably with a bit more consideration of basic ergonomics – starting with the question – what does the user want to do?

One of the things on my future plan is an option in the track properties to auto adjust the length of an event to the length of the entire arrangement. That can be useful both for bounce tracks and parameter tracks.

The upcoming Podium 2.00 has support for drag-scrolling. You can download a 2.00 beta in the VIP lounge if you want to try it out.

Yes drag scrolling is a step forward. Can you tell me if I want to make the bounce the same size as the midi track do I need to drag out the track and both selection sliders of just one of them? – I’m not sure what the red and green sliders are for.

    I don’t understand. Please elaborate.

    – I’m not sure what the red and green sliders are for.

The red bar is the punch in/out range. The green bar is the loop range.

I meant do I also need to drag out the red and green sliders or just the empty bounce track? Its because I wasn’t sure what they did – thought maybe they also defined the limits of the bounce.

Only the event on the bounce track. If you have enabled the punch in/out buttons the bouncing will be limited to the punch in/out range, so in that case you also need to adjust the punch in/out range.

tbh I don’t know what punching in and out is šŸ˜³

Enable popup-help, and hover the mouse over the punch in/out and punch range controls in the transport toolbar. If you e.g. start playback a bar before you want to start recording on a track, you enable punch-in and set the punch in position to the desired start time.

Thanks – people always use these terms without realising people who have never worked in a studio environment probably don’t know what they mean.
