The Relink file function works very well, however I found out recently that while it does what it is supposed to do, when relinking a high number of files it can take a very long time to complete the process as one must relink each file one by one. π
I found this out the hard way recently as I re arranged a large number of files and had to relink them one by one. I still have more to relink. The recently added “Search for missing plugins” on the other hand provided me with a one click process to restore all my FX and instruments (close to 100) in about 2 seconds.
If there was a similar Re link all file(s) option that was available in the Arrangements and sounds drop down menu, that could bring up a small box allowing you to choose where it looks for the missing files that would be great.
Once the folder or location of the files is chosen, one could simply select the files that are missing in a project or arrangement for relinking. Ctrl clicking each one and then clicking OK to import the missing flies in one click π
After seeing the dramatic effect the Search for missing plugins had on my attempts to restore FX and instruments in my projects, I think something similar for relinking more than one file at a time in Podium would be a very useful addition. π
Another idea would be to have Podium search a user selected location. But this time using a global option. This would allow a user to specify where Podium will search by default if any files are flagged as missing.
That way a “Search for missing audio files” option would work in exactly the same way was the current “Search for missing plugins” option. That option currently ‘looks’ first in the user selected VST Plugin folder destination. Of course even that can be changed when searching.
So perhaps a “Search for missing audio files” option could also have a default location set a by a user in the Preferences menu. π

If I remember well, it is on the plan ?
It is something essential indeed !
Vegas for example does this very simply : if he doesn’t find some files when a project is loaded, he searches automatically in the project folder and subfolders without asking you anything.
If he doesn’t find one, he asked you to choose the path where it is, and if there are other missing files in the same place he locates them automatically.
Since subfolder are also scanned, it is generally nearly a transparent process for the user.
In the case of a drive letter change or a folder renaming, we could have only to select the new drive or folder once.
If Podium doesn’t ask for it at loading, it could be as simple as selecting one of the files that have a broken link, right click for relink file, select the new drive / folder, and all the other files are automatically relinked.
Or as you say, a “Search for missing audio files” menu where you indicate the drive letter and let Podium scan the folders.
The “Search in File Folder” menu command was added in Podium 1.68, and in the latest 1.72 it was added to the guide:

Your next question may be; “Why is there no “Search For Missing Sound Files” menu in the Arrangements & Sounds panel menu?”. Because each arrangement in a project may have similarly named sound files placed in different arrangement subfolders. So you need to select the broken sound files for one arrangement at the time, and direct the search to the proper subfolder for the arrangement.

He he, thanks for pointing me there. I have not read the Podium guide for 1.72 yet. It does work as described as well thanks. π

That is quite a clever approach and does make sense but I still think a Project wide “Search for missing audio files” option in the Arrangement and Sounds column could be much quicker for linking any file that is missing in any arrangements within a Project.
Even if each arrangement uses a similar or identical file, all Podium would need to do is simply replace any instance of that file wherever it is missing in each arrangement in a Project.
So if Drum loop 9 is used in arrangements 1 and 5 for instance and is flagged as missing by Podium, the “Search for missing audio files” option would simply copy the same files to both arrangements. If Podium can flag files as missing in both arrangements it should I would have thought be able to replace them in both arrangements as well.
Also the “Search in File Folder” does work very well but as I am re linking files from an external firewire drive it would be even more useful to copy the missing files to my arrangement subfolder. So Podium would not just create a link but copy the missing files to any specific arrangements sub folder.
The Project wide “Search for missing folder option” I am now suggesting could also have a copy to Arrangement sub folder option. π It just makes it far quicker to locate, copy and as a result restore links to large numbers of files in a single click. π
Even if each arrangement uses a similar or identical file, all Podium would need to do is simply replace any instance of that file wherever it is missing in each arrangement in a Project.
That’s not what I meant. Say you have two different sound files: arrangement1/beat.wav and arrangement2/beat.wav. If you now rename both arrangement folders and want to relink the files in your project, Podium wouldn’t know which beat.wav belonged to which arrangement. Thus you need to do the search for one arrangement at the time.

Ok yes I agree. In that case it would cause a problem. It is probably best left as it is for now then with the “Search in File folder” option. It is still far quicker than relinking each file individually so I am quite happy with that. Thanks again for pointing me to the new write up in the guide. π
I guess at some point in future maybe Podium could get around the renaming of arrangements scenario you mentioned but for now it’s another layer of complexity that is porbably not needed, especially as Podium is now far easier to use IMO. Best left as is.
Thanks for the explanations.
Cheers. π

No. We must do “Search in File Folder” for each file, even if they are all in the same folder.

No. Just select all the broken sound objects in the arrangement, right click the multiple selection and select “Search in File Folder”. The file folder you select will be used to search for all missing files in the selection.
Sorry to have badly explained.
I know that I can select several files, but I work generally with a lot of arrangements inside a project and I don’t record audio in Podium but import files from different drives, internal and external.
Since the files are spread on the different arrangements, and often I don’t know if they are in the same folders or not, it takes a lot of work to search for each of them when it is needed.
If Podium could search for the subfolders and apply the paths to all the files that share the same places it would be a great help.
It could be an option in the preferences in the case of people use the same names for different files.
