InfinitoarParticipantAs you all know I’m still new here[somewhat]and I’m still learning about Podium, features, and all this extra stuff.
It’s my guess, which is probably true, is that only major updates are for Podium the paid version. The freeware version is not a priority updated version so whatever bugs or problems are in the freeware version are left alone until much demand is asked for it.[Although I see more licensed users than freeware ones.] Or not updated at all.
I kind of feel stupid JUST realizing this, which I thought before that, both versions of Podium were updated just that Podium Free was “nerfed” or major features were taken out but still kept the overall updates as the paid version.
Meh oh well. I’m still going to use it. Maybe I’ll start reading some coding books of my own and hopefully one day if I have the inspiration to do it make my own updates :P[Or gets my friends to see what they can do since they are programmers themselves, who knows π ]

4micaParticipantThe free version is updated as the paid version is, except it’s two versions behind. 2.38 paid was just released, as was 2.36 free.
You might want to check with Frits before you do any coding, as it’s his product and all. Have a good day-October 20, 2010 at 09:22 #19684

Hmmmm!
The code in Podium is intelectual property and not open sourced and doing any changes or adding to it without Fritz permission is illegal.
Just pointing out π

InfinitoarParticipantOh!
Hmm….I thought maybe if I tweaked the freeware version for my own personal use[not letting anyone else use it] would be within legal standards.
Sorry about that. Also I didn’t mean to “word” that as an offense to Frits. I just thought “eh maybe he wouldn’t have to worry about my complaining if I really needed something within it, if I can mess around and do it myself or have someone do it for me.”
But I like following rules, so disregard me talking about “tweaking it”. Sorry about that. π [Please don’t hurt me Frits π ]
And thanks 4mica and Fafian. π
P.S. Mica the download page still has 2.35″free” for download not 2.36. Am I looking at the wrong page or is that the latest freeware version?

4micaParticipantThat would be Frits’s baby there…not to speak for him, but I’d wager he just forgot to post it.

4micaParticipantOh, yeah, it’s cool Infinitoar. Believe me, I’ve thought aplenty about learning programming and helping him out too. It’s rocket science to me though!
October 21, 2010 at 07:24 #19690
InfinitoarParticipantOk then if 2.36 [freeware] is out where is it?
I’ve even checked on the “Podium Free” update forum page…. π still can’t find it

4micaParticipantLike I said, I’d wager that he forgot to post it. PM him if it takes too long or if he doesn’t see this message.

Well, not really illegal if he only changes it for his own use. But that point is moot, since to be able to make any changes to the program he’d have to have access to the source code, which I doubt Frits will supply him with.
No matter how good a programmer you are, you won’t be able to add any features to a program when you only have access to the binary executable.

Podium Free is identical to the full Podium version, except for the few mentioned feature limitations. Whatever improvements and bug fixes I make to Podium will automatically appear in Podium Free. Podium Free releases will appear less frequently, and will be delayed a few versions, compared to full releases. I don’t plan to release a Free version each time I release a full version. That is why Free 2.36 is not available yet.

InfinitoarParticipantThanks for the clarification! I’m not strung over it[so far I’ve made some badass remixes in the program the way it is, and certain “hiccups” I can work around until patched]but thanks anyway! I’m still saving on the side for Podium[Licensed version] but thanks for still keeping Podium Free in the updating loop!
@Bacon
If I did use it for my “own personal use” then I thought it would not be illegal to upgrade it, BUT I don’t know the TRUE rules yet, nor will I “test the waters”.[Cause’ I can’t swim anyway π ] That being said I will NOT, I repeat WILL NOT attempt to upgrade or customize Podium in any personal way.I’ll just use it the way it is. I mean I still think it’s a badass DAW. lol.

That’s the attitude!! I mean, hearing some of your remixes on YouTube, it’s evident you’re making good music.

Wow you found me on YouTube!? π Thanks! Good to know some people are looking at me through the corner of their eye. π
I plan on shelling out more “Zynewave Podium Freeware” based remixes on my channel, [been staying up real late at night booting up Podium and mixing for hours]so if you want, subscribe, or just be on the lookout. π
