Although the ‘future predictions’ article I’m linking here makes no mention whatsoever of Podium, there are several paragraphs within the story that have plenty to do with Podium’s direction and future, and therefore that’s why you are seeing it posted here in this FUTURE section of our forum.
But first, whether you’re a licensed user or are content for now with your results using Podium’s free version, you might consider what a good spot we’re in, settle back with our chosen DAW for the fight we’ll be able to view very soon, . . . and maybe put some popcorn in the microwave and make sure you have plenty of cold drinks on hand. Things are about to get interesting.
Ableton and Bitwig are poised to do battle. Both Live 9 and (finally?) a non-beta version of the brand new Bitwig DAW are promised for release. I have Live 8 and have been experimenting and playing with it (about as far as my involvement is going to go I think) for a few months. If I’ve learned anything from having Live around, it’s shown me how much I prefer the kind of track-based, more conventional setups we have in Podium and my other favourite, Reaper.
Soon, the very similar Bitwig will attempt to invade Live’s market and user base, and this will surely have its moments. This will without question be a classic battle of “My DAW can beat up your DAW,” and I plan to enjoy every minute of it from the software-secure and very stable position of owner of a smoothly working Podium complemented by the wonderful collection of mainly freeware plugins we have discovered and shared here and at the other commonly frequented VST sites.
After setting the scene of battle for these two, the article quickly moves on to discuss a few items that will bear directly on Podium’s future and probable direction, so as I read on my interest actually grew.
Without giving away the joy of mulling over details of these things for yourselves, I’ll simply mention that it goes on to discuss the various OS’s and types of pad computers, the future of touch screens, and more — all as they will or might pertain to us and our future use of Zynewave’s Podium. Many of these items have already been brought up in several of our threads here. Perhaps the main thought I took away from this story, which was very recently first published in CM 187, was, Well, these are all of the issues we have been posting and debating on the forum. See how this fits with some of our own concerns for the future:

Comments? I’d be very interested in your further thoughts in regard to the ‘predictions’ and assertions made in the article.
