I read the hierarchy tutorial and sort of understood, but a one item did not get through…

Is it possible to have a parent audio/midi track, and a child track that houses a VST, and then send the output of the parent track to the child track where the application of the VST params can be heard, i.e. parent track raw, child track reverb? This would give me a parent track that is raw, an a child track that is wet with reverb ( for example ).

No. All data (midi, audio, automation) flows upward in the track hierarchy towards the master output. So in your example the child track needs to provide the raw audio, and the parent track the effect processing.

Of course. That makes sense now.
