I um .. admit to liking to use Japanese (or sometimes even Chinese and I expect Korean shortly) in some things I do…
Now, there is no way I would request Podium be updated to fully support unicode based on one user’s whim. *ahem*
However, the recent topic regarding the purchase page in different languages got me wondering if, at some point in the (hopefully near) future, it might not be worth making the labels in Podium, hints etc., editable (with an XML or text file, or even a proprietry file format)? That way, one could choose a translation file and voila!
Now if this were to be done, Podium would have to be adjusted to support unicode. Personally, I believe ALL software these days should be unicode aware; this is a more and more globalising world we are in, Operating Systems are pretty much doing it, and lots of weird characters are being used out there.
I like to name even my folders with Japanese sometimes, and this of course means Podium cannot access it. So I don’t with Podium stuffs, but my point still stands: One of the things in modern software is to be unicode aware.
Some software is only unicode aware with filenames and folders; not content. But if there are foreign users out there, and Podium were to get translated, why not change Podium to accept all unicode, so that one (i.e. me and I wish some others heh) could write unicode within the notes, as well?
I admit I tried to type some Japanese in a note, and it displayed just fine, so I assumed it would be fine. But after I reloaded the file, it was all question marks. I lost nothiing important, and it was just testing (but I thought it had worked) so nothing bad happened. It is clear the Podium format does not support unicode (though I was surprised when it displayed them in notes; perhaps that uses a standard Windows function?).
Anyway, I don’t code but I can’t see why unicode support would be of great difficulty… If it was merely a routine matter of adjusting code in a boring way I’d even offer help, as long as it wasn’t too convoluted .. I am a little rusty with programming and never dealt with unicode but I’m very capable of reading online and finding out how to do things, and am good with those sorts of things.
Anyway, just thought I’d mention it. I doubt you would be interested very soon Frits, but perhaps it is something to consider?
If not, that’s also fine. I just wanted to air this opinion, due to the recent purchase page translation. 🙂
