Is there something in Podium that would allow me to map existing velocity values onto Mod Wheel? (CC1).

Garritan Personal Orchestra is a very good orchestral sound set that uses Modulation to control the loudness of a note over time. Velocity is only used to control the strength of the attack.

The idea is to allow notes to ease in and out and to swell over notes and phrases. BUT this also means that if there is not at least one Mod Wheel message then you don’t hear the notes at all. And if there is ONLY one mod wheel message then you hear the notes at pretty much the same loudness. I say loudness because it is not a simple volume control but a texture change more akin to a good velocity response.

Of course Ideally you would create tons of Modulation messages to have curves on every single note but in practice you might want to start with copying the value of each velocity onto a Mod Wheel value for each note.

THEN you could apply curves to longer notes giving them each a curve loudness allowing for much more expressiveness.

Though I have not tried using curves in Podium yet I figure, with drag and drop. It might be possible to apply a spline curve of modulation to every single note in a piece WITHOUT a ridiculous amount of labor. IF, IF the curves that are nested layer their affects then you could also lay longer spline curves over whole phrases such that you would have curves for individual notes but also whole phrases would ebb and flow. ❗ ❗

Well, can this be done (easily) in Podium ❓ The critical thing would be generating mod wheel messages automatically from velocity messages.

    🙁 No, however:

When you say CC1 (and not polyphonic aftertouch) you apparently are using different MIDI channels for each monophonic melody line. Thus you have each melody/voice on separate tracks. If you prefer not to deal with creating curve sequences, you can drag a parameter (e.g. modulation) directly onto a track and thereby create a static parameter event with an embedded dial for setting the value. To avoid overlaying these static parameter events with your note sequences, you should create a new subtrack for each voice track, and drag the parameter events there. If you select a track with static parameter events, you can view them all in the track event list in the inspector where you also can change their values.

IF, IF the curves that are nested layer their affects then you could also lay longer spline curves over whole phrases such that you would have curves for individual notes but also whole phrases would ebb and flow.

Setting two tracks up with curves for the same parameter is not allowed currently. It’s an interesting idea and I will keep it in mind, but it’s not an easy thing to do, and I’ve got lots of more essential stuff on the immediate plan.
