thcilnnahojParticipantI’ve been thinking about making a few basic tutorial videos in the future.
Might or might not really happen. 😳So, since I can’t record the output of my USB audio interface (bar with yet another external device), I wanted to use the Realtek on-board thingy, but here’s the problem: It seems to need at least 5-6000 ms buffer size to play without glitches – this makes the track meters run very jaggy, which of course is not pretty on video. 😉
I tested with Ableton Live and there’s no such problem.July 20, 2009 at 17:15 #15612
ZynewaveKeymasterAre you using ASIO drivers for the onboard interface? If not, try the generic ASIO4ALL driver.

thcilnnahojParticipantI can’t use ASIO as I would need to record Podium’s output through the Stereo Mix ‘input’ of the on-board soundcard. It’s the most common way to record what’s playing on your computer internally, or so I’ve gathered.
I’m pretty sure this input is unavailable with ASIO drivers, but I’ll see what google has to say.Edit: To clarify, my problem isn’t the high latency but rather the very slowly updating track meters, which seems to be a problem in Podium with using MME drivers and large buffer sizes. Like I said, meters in Live, for example, update normally with the same settings. Can anyone confirm this?

ZynewaveKeymasterThe meters are updated once for each buffer. So that’s why they are slow to update with large buffer sizes.
What screencast program are you using?
I have been checking out various screencast recorders these last few days, and I found that BBFlashback Express (freeware) has an option to record the soundcard output, although that didn’t work for me.
With my RME soundcard, I’ve physically cabled the audio output back into a stereo input. With the RME mixer software I can route the mic directly to the output, so I’m able to record both the mic narration and playback in Podium (with ASIO).

thcilnnahojParticipantSo is there no quick way for you to ‘patch’ the meter update rate? 😉 Like I said, it works with Live for example, but I wouldn’t know how they do it.
Guess I’m stuck with my original plan b – re-cabling, like you did. It’s workable but gives me a few more things to worry about. For recording I’m using good old VirtualDub. I wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t already know it (and its bugs) inside-out, as it can be quite crashy. 🙄
What you’re using looks like a good choice!August 3, 2009 at 11:19 #15814

They are processed for each buffer for CPU efficiency reasons. It would take more than a day of coding to make it independent of the audio buffer size. For all normal purposes, there is no urgent need for this I think.
