Topic: Weird Log in problem with Firefox 1.5

    Hi,
    I’ve got a weird problem with Firefox and this forum. I have a small network with two computers going through an ADSL2+ modem/router. I use Firefox as a browser on both computers with basically the same settings.

    The weird part is that while the Log In to these forums work fine on one of the computers, it’s nearly impossible on the other. It might work one time out of 20. However…if I use Internet Explorer I have no problems logging in and if I then close down IE and start Firefox the log in suddenly works…

    I’ve had these problems for quite a while (even before the modem/router thing when I used ICS with one of the computers as gateway) but now I’ve had enough! I just can’t figure out what’s wrong. So…help! This is driving me nuts! 😥

    What do you mean with impossible to log in: Does the forum page not load, or do you get an invalid password message, or is it something else?

    Well, if I start my browser and point it to http://www.zynewave.com/forum/index.php I see the four forums: Releases, Future, Support and General Chat. At the bottom I write my Username and Password, I put a checkmark in the “Log me on automatically each visit” box and then I click on the Log in button.

    The page updates and…nothing has happened! Everything is still exactly the same except for the address field in my browser which states: http://www.zynewave.com/forum/index.php?sid=1c710fdaf690a36f2d8a8c914dedc3d3

    I can’t see my Username in the Who is online box. I’m NOT logged in, there’s no checkmark in the “Log me on automatically each visit” box and I can’t see the VIP forum. I’ve tried logging in without the “Log me on…..” checkmark but it doesn’t matter one way or the other.

    Does the same thing happen if you click the “log in” link at the top and login there instead of at the bottom of the main forum page?

    I had a problem a while ago, which caused my login to become invalid after a few minutes. This happened because my IP address was dynamically changed by my internet provider. I don’t think that is your problem, because the problem should be present with IE as well.

    Yes, I’ve tried that link as well with the same results. It just returns me to the first page.

    Since it works with one computer but not the other, both with Firefox, one might assume the fault lies with Firefox on the non working machine. However I can’t for the life of me figure out what causes the problem. I just hoped that you or anybody else might know what to do about it. Firefox is kind of new to me so I’m not sure what to do. The thing is I have no problems anywhere else on the net when logging in to a site. 😕

    I can’t think of anything within my control that can affect this. I’m using the latest and unmodified phpBB forum software. Are you registered on other phpBB forums?

    Yes I am. I’ve just now tried 5 different phpBB forums on the net and they all work on both computers. Finally I tried once again to log in here with the “other” computer without any luck. I just don’t understand this!
