i hate the idea that podium depends on good graphics cards to do even the simplist thing. would it realy be that hard to create a version that doesnt rely on buying a new graphics card? of course i can afford a basic graphics card but i realy dont see a need to buy one because i wouldnt get any work done anyway. for me using podium is like using fl studio because the workflow is the same. pattern based cept it uses multitrack for synths.
ive got no work done because it so slow. and i cant even set the pattern length of individual patterns which is how i HAVE to work because i need to hear what im doing in real time. i mean realy,m the whole idea of sequncers is being able to create something from nothing but you cant create somethiing if you cant develop an idea. alot of people HAVE to work by hearing the song as there making it which is why orion and project 5 are so popular because these two sequncers cater to the people who produce like me.
is it realy so hard frits that you can make podium work like this? all it is is just a diffrent kind of workflow. hell ill be your beta tester. but honestly sequncers should cater top the persons workflow style the peson shouldnt have to cater to the sequencer.
well i leanrned the basics of podium. accomplishment? maybe. and it taught me the baics of using multitrack which is gonna be invaluble in the long run.
but for me working in podium is basicly like working in fl studio where i also get no work done because of its pattern based workflow style. cepyt podium has the best sound engine of any pattern based or multitrack daw.
support here has been very good. but if podium can do any of aforementioned then it would be a good day.
hey frits, sory about being an asshole and goin into a rant. i was upset and frusterated π³ any plans of adding things like, adjustable pattern lengths,(by adjustable patern lengths i mean having two difrent patterns playing at the same time. so, podium can be playing a 16 beat drum and a 64 lenght melody, you would hear the 16 bar drum loopplay over and over instead of the drum loop stoping playing at 16 bars ie orion/project 5
a preset breed function and editor, activated pianoroll/sutained note preview?
thanx frits π³

By todays standards, I don’t think Podium is very demanding on the graphics hardware. The note I wrote about requiring a decent graphics card, was intended for very old PC systems, and also to emphasize that having a decent graphics card really can make a difference. This applies to all applications. I’ve been reading complaints on kvr where people claimed that the Tracktion 2 UI is much slower than Tracktion 1. The common reply seems to be that Tracktion 2 now also uses transparency settings in its skins. Also I’ve spent a lot of time speed-optimizing the UI, so I’m happy with the performance. I’ve got a simple 50US$ ATI graphics cards, with no fans on it, and Podium is flying on this.

You set up one track with the 64 beat instrument sequence. Set the loop range to this 64 beat range. You then create a 16 beat sequence on a second track. This will only be quarter the length of the loop. To repeat this across the entire loop range, select the 16 beat sequence event, and press the insert key three times. This will append phantom copies of the drum sequence. If you edit the notes in one of the phantom sequences, the changes will be reflected in all the phantom copies. There are other ways to create the phantom copies, but that’s the easiest way.
Regarding graphics performance…. I agree with Fritz on this. I’m one of the guys that was having no end of problems with Tracktion 2. Tracktion 1 was very good from a graphics perspective. The very 1st version of T2 was fine as well, but all version from that point on really had graphics issues.
I have had no graphics performance issues with Podium on exactly the same hardware setup. I use a cheap nVidia card which is good. I looked at more expensive cards but all they really add is improved 3d performance which is not needed (for any daw) and a fan which only adds noise. Bottom line is that you do not need a highend card to run a daw.
You might want to look at the IRQ’s that are being used by your machine. Don’t be surprised if you find that your soundcard, video card, network card and usb all use the same interface. I had an older computer and this was a problem. It was more problematic in that it seemed that the video was taking priority over the sound and I was getting a lot of dropouts. I would much sooner have choppy video than have sound dropping out.
With T2 the workaround is delete all meters. Some people find this to be reasonable. I didn’t and now I’m here. Don’t give up on Podium.

I also use old nVIDIA graphics card and have no problem with Podium.
