I thought it would be interesting to see what other “Forumites” interests are in music… So what’s been playing in your cd/mp3/etc player…
I do most of my music listening in my car on my commute to and from work so here’s a listing of what’s in my player…
Disk 1 – MP3 compilation of my favorite guitar based instrumentals which includes the likes of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Johnny A, Jonh Petrucci, Neil Schonn, Buckethead, Vinnie Moore…
Disk 2 – MP3 compilation of Steve Vai
Disk 3 – MP3 compilation of Joe Satrinai
Disk 4 – MP3 compilation of Buckethead
Disk 5 – MP3 compilation of Meshuggah, Tool and Opeth
Disk 6 – Latest Ironmaiden
An just sitting in a case on standby is the newest Trivium.
Cheers…
Lately I’ve been listening to Radiohead’s Kid A and Amnesiac albums a lot.
I never got into Radiohead, but a couple months ago my friend Stef told me “You sound like Kid A” and then bought me the Kid A cd – after listening to it a bit I really like it. I’m going to have to pick up the live album with tracks from both albums and check out Hail to The Theif as well now 🙂
Lately I’m also listening to:
The Beatles – Revolver
Thom Yorke – The Eraser
The Who – Endless Wire
Smashing Pumpkins – Machina & Machina II
The Killers – Sam’s Town
Autechre – Draft 7.30 🙂
I’m more inspired by Kid A and Amnesiac than I have been in a long time which is great! I can’t wait to start rebuilding my home studio this summer and get back into more composing (computer problems have forced me into a hiatus)

opeth 😀 … saw them a couple of months ago! was awesome. I love their intracacies….. still life is still my favourite album of theirs.
I go to the public library 2-3 times every month and bring home a stack of 20-30 CD’s. That’s the way I learn about new music. I don’t listen to the radio and I don’t watch the hitlists on MTV. It means that it can be years after an album is released before I “discover” it. Some of the albums I’ve enjoyed recently:
Brian Eno – Another Day on Earth
Crash Test Dummies – Songs of the Unforgiven
Rufus Wainwright – Want One / Want Two
Rammstein – Reise, Reise
Laibach – WAT
Elbow – Cast of Thousands
Divine Comedy – Regeneration

They came through town several months ago but unfortunately I missed them. They played in one of the smaller venues to a relative small crowd but from what I’ve heard it was one of the best shows in a long long time.
Fritz… You’re lucky you can get your music from the library. I used to be able to do that too, but over the years the library has had such an issue with theft of cd’s it’s really hard to find anything down that avenue any more.
I agree with you on MTV and radio. I’ve started listening more and more to a community channel that has a number of shows with locals going through their libraries so you get to hear some interesting stuff there. Outside of that there really is nothing new on radio and TV and its hard to find interesting new music. I often turn to music forums to find out about different stuff.
Eraser is good, isn’t it? i have been listening to that one too.
Also Autechre – Draft 730 ; one of my favs. 😀
I have been listening to Brian Jonestown Massacre quite a bit. Methadrone makes me cry, and makes me sing. i don’t know how else to put it.
Metric also. It’s been a long time since such an excellent band has come out. they are exceptional musicians and songwriters, i think.
After 30 years of playing guitar on again / off again, I’ve decided to take guitar lessons. My teacher is having me learn several versions of the lead in Jimi Hendrix’s Little Wing. So I’ve been listening to Jimi, Stevie and Sting.
