roninParticipantI’m not sure if this is the right place to put this. Please excuse me if it isn’t but I just wanted to let you know, that Podium seems to work flawlessly under Windows 7 x64. I recently switched to this OS and saved my old Podium installation to another partition. This installation (including the old 32-bit plugins) seem to work so far. I just had some problems with my Presonus Firestudio because Presonus doesn’t provide Windows 7 x64 drivers yet. I’ve tried the Vista drivers but they are not what I call stable. My Asus Xonar works like a charm but isn’t really useful for music production (because its has some kind of build-in compression/volume management). Nice greetings

druidParticipantDon’t start me, I’ve been discussing W7 64-bit drivers with Tascam, and they say they’ll “consider” it AFTER it’s released. Talk about pre-planning. And I read up on it; in most cases, it’s very similar to Vista, so it wouldn’t take them a whole lot of effort, and I’m sure they don’t need to go down the shop and buy it to make drivers, because Microsoft surely have programs to help driver production to be ready for release.
Not to mention, that their “64-bit support” 32-bit drivers (whatever THAT means) don’t work for me, so I jumped back. Note that the drivers are 32-bit, it’s just that version’s release notes only stated 64-bit support, but since it was latest version I thought I’d try.
Anyway, 64-bit drivers will be a headache I think. I hope driver production for 64-bit is taken more seriously with Windows 7 than it was with Vista.
In other news, I’m now looking forward to seeing if Podium goes 64-bit. 🙂 Not sure what benefits it would really bring though, so I don’t mind either way atm.

Mike GParticipantI’m also win 7 64, so far so good…
Do you have the “ProAudio video low latency” option in power plan too? Or is it a DELL laptop thing?November 27, 2009 at 18:14 #16846
roninParticipantNo. “ProAudio video low latency” seems to be a DELL-only feature. What does it do?
November 27, 2009 at 20:09 #16848
Mike GParticipantNo idea what it does that’s why I was asking!!
For starters it turns off my wireless internet…
Not checked as yet what the difference in perf between this setting and High performance setting… I’ll post if I find anything usefull…November 27, 2009 at 20:15 #16849
Mike GParticipantOh forgot to mention.. More none compatibility to add to the list my M-Audio Oxygen8v2 keyboard doesn’t have drivers for Win 7 64. I can still use it though via old skool MIDI but not usb…
My Presonus firebox and EDIROL UA-1ex both have win 7 64 drivers that work like a dream.
All my plug-ins and everything else seem to work fine.
All in all I’ve had a positive experience so far.November 27, 2009 at 22:52 #16850
kyranParticipantIf it has vista drivers you can install those, or even windows xp 64 bit drivers.
I got edirol ua-1ex vista 64bit drivers to install and work on windows xp 64 bit (so it’s not because the installer tells you it doesn’t work, that it doesn’t 😉 )
November 27, 2009 at 23:43 #16851
Mike GParticipantno my edirol drivers are fine.
its the m-audio oxygen 8 v2 that’s not! (Issue is lack of 64 bit support rather than windows 7, like you say windows 7 could probably convince the driver that it was vista anyway)
November 28, 2009 at 00:48 #16852
roninParticipantBtw: If anyone has a presonus device (e.g. firestudio 26×26): there is some kind of hack to get the device to work with windows 7 x64. You have to use another firewire driver. I still have some minor glitches with my firestudio but at least it works and I can get some audio through it.
November 28, 2009 at 14:08 #16854
kyranParticipantI just had a look on the m-audio site and the oxygen8v2 has 64bit vista drivers (try the sp2 ones, they’ll probably work on windows 7)
November 28, 2009 at 14:10 #16855
Mike GParticipantThat’s what I thought but…
Did you actually download them or just see the drivers in a list of available drivers…
There is a difference!!
November 28, 2009 at 15:34 #16858
kyranParticipantI finally end up on a page that says the device is class compliant.
This means that you can just install the windows 7 midi and audio device drivers. If you need asio use asio4all. It’s what I do with my novation x-station. Asio4all actually gives me better performance than the novation drivers.
This is the best possible scenario really, because it makes your device support independent from the manufacturer
November 28, 2009 at 15:40 #16859
Mike GParticipantYeah I’ve tried the win 7 drivers and it finds the device but still no midi!
I don’t mind for the moment, like I say its just a midi controller and I can use ols style midi port rather than usb…November 28, 2009 at 16:14 #16861
kyranParticipantPlug it in by the usb and look in the device manager if there’s an unidentified device (it used to be marked by a question mark icon). Maybe you just need to give it a little push by manually instructing it to find a driver. I know I had to do this on vista for some stuff.
Also try another usb port than the one you normally use.
There’s no point in waiting for m-audio. If it’s class compliant they are not going to issue new drivers.
November 28, 2009 at 16:18 #16862
Mike GParticipantSays its installed correctly, has device name and everything
Like I say I’m not masively bothered at the moment due to old style midi support.
