My suggestion is forget about trying to be an equivalent or competitor to ProTools, without massive marketing dollars, partnerships with hardware vendors and an actual development team you are wasting your time.

There is a massive market of people who just want to make tunes on their PC/Laptop @ home and on the road. Traditional musicians and the new breed of electronic musicians no longer need a big time studios to create hits.

I could see Podium fitting nicely into the space with Mixcraft, Traction, MuLab. One of the issues that Podium has compared to other DAW’s that it comes with no content at all; whilst that doesn’t matter to those of us that have our own instruments/samples to anyone starting out it’s a big turn off. Why not try to create some partnerships with plugin makers and bundle with Podium.

With Podium you have a professional piece of software that has massive potential but looks to the outside world that it’s no longer being developed.

I’d love to offer my help again & you have a community here that might even be able to help you market / grow Podium, but if the priorities are things like making plugins load faster then maybe it is already too late.

    Anyway /endrant

    1) Virtual Keyboard
    2) More Audio File Format Support
    3) More Effects

You need to think of Windows 8 tablets not as a simple iPad copy but as an actual PC.

You can dock it to a docking station / 20″ HD monitor and it becomes a normal fully fledged PC, so you can be anywhere with your device and get things done. The x86 tablet will run on normal Intel/AMD chips; all your current hardware & software should work (audio cards / asio drivers, usb devices).

The big question now is do people want to work within a restricted iPad app environment or would they prefer full PC functionality in a tablet. It’s going to take quite a while for that question to be answered.

There is 1 DAW that has a brillant implimentation of WASAPI and thats Acousticas Mixcraft. It actually works flawlessly; I dont even bother with ASIO4ALL where I have that installed. Now I have no idea why but it wouldnt surprise me if they actually are the only ones that took it seriously enought to impliment properly.

WinRT tablets are a stopgap in my mind; one that at the moment is interesting because they can be cheaper than x86; like normal PC’s prices will go down for x86 tablets and they will probably be the main choice. HP have just come out saying they are skipping RT tablets and will make x86.

I’ve already got 1 box thats dedicated to Windows 8 for development; and will move to it on all my devices as soon as its released.

Wicked, I have used Podium a fair bit of the last few years, decided it was about time to upgrade to 64bit (for rewire).

You may need to go re-read the article, that is where my information is from.

Windows 8 non ARM / non Metro performs better than Windows 7.

For audio streaming Metro utilizes the WASAPI (Windows audio streaming api). This is the multimedia framework that Microsoft debuted in Windows Vista. WASAPI supports low latency via what is known as “exclusive mode” where an application can bypass the high latency introduced by the system mixer. However based on reports from Microsoft it would appear that low latency audio applications were not considered in the Metro application model. See this blog post where Microsoft states that 100 msec was considered to be their goal for acceptable latency!

No low level support for low level driver models. e.g there appears to be no easy way to use the low latency Windows driver access that DAW users are accustomed to, such as ASIO or WDM kernel streaming, so access to custom USB or Firewire audio interfaces is questionable.

There is no built in MIDI support for Metro applications in the current version of Windows. This is a major disadvantage for music apps. Hopefully in the near future Microsoft will rectify this problem

That info relates to the new Metro apps which will be sold in the Microsoft App Store.

RT may be a no go for Podium, MS are looking at 100ms latency as being acceptable under metro; also no ASIO drivers can be used under metro…

For people serious about music you’ll need the Windows 8 version thats going to run on x86.

I think you’re dreaming if you think that 95% of music will be made with a primary mobile devices in 5 years..

If you want to target creative musicians, built a matrix like interface in Podium like there is in Ableton Live, put in OSC support, add a sampler, a looper…

Looks pretty awesome in my opinion, but I’d prefer just to use a full version of Podium on an iPad, I’d never use it on my phone.

I can completely understand looking at other platforms for Podium; iOS has a lot of users. I also understand that working on 1 app for a long long time can become pretty stale (I run a software dev company too), so learning new skills can be pretty cool 🙂

The thing you have to think about with iPhone / Android is how many peope are going to use Mobium; lot’s of my producer mates wouldn’t do any serious work with an phone or a tablet… and there are also heaps of really really good apps out there like Nano Studio… how would Mobium compete?

I’m about to focus on Podium as my main DAW for all of 2011; I’d love to see it further developed or alt east have some idea of what the road map is.

Trancit the track you sent me wouldnt open, said it was made with a differnent version. I’m using 2.32.

Zynewave is it correct that for each rewire/reason instrument I want to use I need to create 2 tracks?
