Incidentally, would changing the scale from percentage to dB be only a matter of renaming the labels, or would this require some more tedious work?
It’s trickier than just renaming the labels. Otherwise I would have done it a long time ago. I haven’t yet found it worthwile to spend some hours on implementing this. Eventually I will.
LOL!, indeed, percentage is linear while dB is logarithmical.
Well, it would be still useful… maybe u cant do sidechain and multilayering with it, u can still go mental with routing without using energyxt or other modular host’s vst version.
As a longtime Energy XT and modular host fan this is the very best thing could happen…
I asked maybe a year ago if modularity is on the todo list but Frits said no :(.
I will buy at least two licenses if modularity will be added.
ps: i still cant get used to the nonmodular logic 🙁

Did you read that thread too?:
http://www.zynewave.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1831Though it would not help with your particular problem, it could very much improve podiums flexibility, so it could handle some tasks known from modular hosts alot better, but in its own way.
Hope Mikes idea makes it into podium at one point.
Yes, that solution would be easy, fit into Podiums current design, not nearly as good as the usual wire anything-to-anything but definitely a big yes for sound designers.
Thanks for the reply guys.
I didnt sell the other license, nobody bought it, and i decided to keep it in case i want to port my old projects (not thats likely to happen since i got much better since then , but its fun to analyze my old tracks).
Well, i think i will use Podium for arrangement, and the mentioned host for sound design work, until i can make all my ideas in Podium.
(I know 2 guys who do sound design for movies and games, neither of them can live without a modular environment).
Ahh this is so freakin sad :(. But i think with Podium i will be still closer to my goals, even with a slower workflow…
And who knows… Podium is at least being developed well, so maybe one day we will get that zGrid? (I searched this forum and found some interesting threads…)
Well, unfortunately ive spent some serious time making noise again (which i shouldnt since i have a lot of work).
After some hours of testing, i think podiums weakest link is the lack of advanced routing… the hierarchic mixing engine looks clever, but i cant really make parallel inserts?? Like this…
---- Distortion A
Synth ---- Distortion B --- Compressor
/
---- Distortion C /
| | |
| (Send Reverb)
|
(Dist A, B, C -> ) Reverb
Am i too used to modularity? Can it be done somehow without getting a headache?

I assume you mean the right part of the toolbar. You can configure the toolbar and add/remove any controls you want. I could add shortcut buttons for switching between the editor profiles. That would in effect give you the buttons you want.
I checked it and nope, i thought about the empty space next to the timeline at the left, above the track names.
But its not that important now i know about the editor profiles. Cool feature.
Cheers
Well in this case i have to say you are such a genious i cant express it, really.
I hope you make shitload of cash out of this Podium project, if not, ask the users to promote it in popular forums.
I will buy a license as soon as i get back to production.
(Also i think the 50$/year is a really good bussiness model.)
Very-very decent job, congratulations.

Hi John,

Is the different tools are there to simplify the anyway more complex/fieture rich environment? With xt i dont need to use anything like that, so its a bit unusual for me.
All of the functionality of the different tools can be accessed with just the select tool and by using key shortcuts and popup menus. So if you prefer to work in a “toolless” environment, you can ignore the tools or remove them completely from the toolbar in the editor profile setup dialogs.
Frits
Woh! Sounds cool. I think i will work a little bit with Podium to see if i can get used to it – i just realised you can save the project! Thats awesome, it allows for quite an in-depth testing.
If i can get used to livin without the modular view i think i have got a winner here , hehe =).
cheers. what a damn fine app.
Thanks for your reply =).

IMO, Podium’s strengths are in that perceived complexity that newcomers encounter. I’ll just comment on one area: VST’s
Yes, somehow i felt this answer coming by looking at the fact that Frits is a genious. Together with EXT’s Jorgen, i think they done a very great work at making a DAW alone.
What appeals me in Podium is the attention paidto the details, but onfortunately the basic concept misses some points, with EXT the situation is quite the opposite. I mean EXTs simple modular view grants an easy navigation and routing flow, but there are NO costumer support nor any update/bugfix, etc etc…
Sorry for coming here and spreading the word about EXT, i hope the developer does not find it too rude, thats really not my will.
So on Podium: i think i have not really seen such a polished application which radiates the same professional feel like this. Everything is just in place. I also love the smart coding of it: ive just tested it with a more than ten thousand bar long pattern :D. It workd without any problem.
The inbuilt sound editor why wont replace the standalone sound editors, is quite a handy thing, especially the fact that you can export just the sound itself! You dont have to export to wav the whole bar and cut the not used parts of the sound. If it could apply some kind of fx vsts to specific areas it would be awesome =).
More later =). One thing though, the piano rolls B,C and E,F notes are bigger than the other white keys, also the note do not fills out the space on the keys, nd i find it hard to navigate in the piano roll because of that.
Cheers.
