Ok, Ive tried setting up a GeoCities page, and tried link to it, but frankly I have enough of trying to get it work 😈

If anyone can recommend good web-site hosting (which is easily configurable)…please let me know

I agree 100% with you ageis. I have purchased Podium for the exact same reasons.

I’ve found Podium has many *three* strengths over other sequencers.

    1. A studio setup is defined once and once only. Once done, use of *all* devices (hardware based, software based plug-ins) can be used…simply and painless. no-need to specify nasty techy stuff….thats already been done.

    2. The HMx engine ( 😛 ) is very logical. Its very easy to trace the path of audio. Much more so than a traditional hardware/based mixer.

    3. Automation is soooo easy to do. Not bothering with automation read/write is such a time saver. The introduction of a slider for each parameter is also fantastic.

There are a good few things lacking however. I do alot of midi-editing, and there is alot tool-swappng and keyboard-pressing involved when manipulating events. Which would be greatly eased with context sensitive mouse positions and short-cut keys for tools. In fact all the midi-editing suggestions in the ‘future development’ post, I think are critical.

There is no mentronome count-in, which I think is vital to recording.

All in all. The future is very bright for Podium. I remember reading on the web-site, that fritz took a year off to see if Podium was commercially viable, its a definite yes!…once a few essential features are implemented, there will be nothing out there to touch Podium at this price range.

I was planning to work on the VST GUIless editor windows next, but if you think this media browser is important, then I could start on it as the next thing?

A media brower would be a useful thing. But couldn’t the object list be ehanced to provide these new options? As mentioned before, I much prefer the use of the object list over the project browser. To be honest, if I had my way, I would enhance the object list, so you could drag and drop from node to node; implement this new functionality…and remove the project brower completely. 😯 ..call me a rebel, if you will! 😉

Download the demo and have a play planist.

You may find it tricky getting up to speed with it, so have a look at the videos on the web page.

Podium requires setting up before being used. More-so than most sequencers. But this is they key to its flexibility and ultimately its ease of use: when actually producing music.

Spend the time setting it up (which is only the once), and it will save you loads of time actually producing your music in the future…all your plug-ins, external devices are all set-up (exactly how you like them) and are ready to go.

This I feel is one of Podium strengths.

Also get to grips with the mixing concept. Its a very slick one, and has none of the old hardware based concepts that people have learnt to get used to. This is, after-all, software. Why copy hardware….which is in itself limited.

Its a very new program. So still lacks several features. But these are being worked on as we speak. Even-so Podium is a very capable sequencer. Maybe not as mature as the big-boys, but it has potential, and lots of it.

Let us know what you think 😀

That was a quick one :).

Can anyone tell me the concept of having a parameter ‘inside’ a track, as oppose to having it as a child of a track?

I understand the workings of a parameter chiild track, That makes perfect sense.

I assumed having a parameter ‘inside’ a track allowed you to view parameter curves and midi data on the same track, which is cool. But I there doesnt seem to be any way of created new midi data in that track. The curve editor is always displayed.

Also, Im assuming that if you want more than one parameter for a track…child tracks have to be used. Which begs the question…why have a parameter ‘inside’ a track anyway. Why not just stick to child tracks.

    Thanks.

Oh, I see!….i just discovered the adjustable track indentation….now thats cool! 😀

I discovered something else (real problem i think):

    1. Create empty arrangement
    2. Create a new track (A)
    3. Map track A to a vst plug-in (I used Sir, but i dont think it matters).
    4. drag, Sir VST parameter onto track A.
    5. Drag parameter from track A, downwards to create a new track (B).
    6. Drag whole of Track B onto Track A.
    7. Podium crashes 🙁

    Cheers.

But thinking about it. What you mentioed about having the option. Maybe nice 🙂

I think this was mentioned before.

I think the answer was, that it would be putting all your eggs in one basket. If the save file became corrupt or lost, the wav files would also be lost. If the wavs are saves seperately, they can remain untouched.
