    Frits

The new startup page straddles my 2 monitors e.g one half one on, other half on the other.

And I can’t seem to move it.

    Is this intentional ?

    Hi,

Things like audio event fade-in/out, disk-streaming optimization, and various other usability features are higher on the list. Too early to set a deadline on this feature.

Will Podium ever have right-click Midi Learn for quick on-the-fly parameter control (e.g. of VSTi parameters) ?

This is one of the greast things about FLS…really helps keep an inspirational session going.

I think a written manual will appear at some stage, but I imagine it will be highly unlikely to appear before a boxed copy of Podium does. One would expect a written manual with a boxed copy but I think there are few download only packages that also have a written physical manual.

I have simply printed out the Podium PDF. It’s not that many pages to read as Podium has a very good and sensible spread of key features that people actually want, so reading through the PDF did not take me that long for such a powerful programme.

Podium has plenty of depth to it. Far more than is apparent from going through threads on the forum.

A Podium manual would be nice to have for sure but I think a Podium Boxed option will appear first. 😉

Err…where is the Podium pdf ?

I’m only aware of the Guide….

I see no obvious problems with the projects. They appear similar to the projects you emailed me months ago. After all this time working on a template setup, have you even had time for creating music with Podium? 😮

Your setup is very complex with VSTs, GigaSampler, External hardware, SW1000XG and plugcard mappings in one arrangement. I can understand that you feel you need all of these technologies at hand to create music, but maybe a simpler setup would be a better starting point to get started with composition in Podium.

    😳

It’s really a problem with (lack of) time Frits… 🙁

That combined with an anal (and probably Y chromosome related) desire to have my complete setup properly mapped into Podium before tackling production work…

I think I’m just about there now though..

There should be nothing from keeping it simple to begin with, even in this very complex default setup…..maybe just stick to a few VSTi’s and some live audio (guitar)…got to be disciplined and not use stuff just because it’s “there”.

Another problem is the relative complexity of setting up Podium itself, compared to something like FLS 6 or Reason (which really get you up and running very quickly).

Maybe it’s the wrong app for my limited abilities & time but I was initially attracted to it because of it’s hardware control ability (as an alternative to Cubase SX, which I still enjoy but stayed at version 2) …and the more I’ve spent setting it up, the more I can see other attractions as well !

I’m at that annoying time of life where I’ve got the money but not the time (demanding job, 2 small children).

But I’m going to persevere & promise to start composing now (and please forgive me returning ask rather dim questions 🙂 ….it’s amazing what you forget if you haven’t had chance to sit in front of the DAW for a few weeks..)

Forgive me – I’d forgotten that I previously organised them into Instrument and Effect subfolders…they’re all in these.

Could you do me a favour Frits ?

I’m going to email you my 2 basic projects (“Direct Monitoring” and “Mixdown”)…can you cast an eye over them to see if there are any glaring problems ?

Direct Monitoring has no audio input into Podium (primarily a Midi sequencer).

Mixdown has all external audio routed back into Podium for mixing e.g. track audio input is enabled in the Podium mixer.

    thanks

If you are using ‘scan & import’ on an existing project, Podium will only import those plugins that are not already imported in the project.

I kind of suspected that…but where are all the other plugins imported last time (the Map list in the browser only lists the 40 or so plugins, not the 100s I expected) ?

The import should accept any VST plugins. Make sure the Podium VST folder setting is set to your main Vstplugins folder. The import will only search up to four levels of nested subfolders. Maybe you have a deeper hierarchy of subfolders?

    Thanks Frits

    No, it’s not particularly nested.

Strange…the search window clearly whizzes through the 100s of plugins, but briefly pauses at those that it is adding.

I’m sure it worked OK last time I ran it.

I’ll have another go tomorrow and report back.

    Hi Frits,

I’ve installed the new beta driver for the HDSP system, and according to RME, I suppose that it may give better performances within Podium :

    http://www.rme-audio.com/download/hdsp_wdm_beta1.zip

“- Lower system load on start of data transmission (start of record/playback)
    – Better performance on playback. We added a small safety buffer of 32
samples on the playback side. To give some numbers from a typical test
    machine, crackling starts at:
Old driver 64 samples 60% 128 Samples 70% CPU load
New driver 64 samples 85% 128 Samples 90% CPU load
So even if you add the 32 samples to the 64 samples, the new driver
still does a better job than the old one at 128! And the 32 samples are
on the playback side only, so throughput monitoring is even more
attractive. Because of this tremendous improvement we removed the
highest buffer size and replaced it with a 32 sample setting as lowest
    setting.
    – Secure Record Technique. This driver includes a new scheme for
handling record data. It guarantess all record data to reach the
application even when the computer is blocked with 100% CPU load for a
short time. We think this is a real killer feature, as there is nothing
more important than reliability when doing recordings.”

I have not yet the time to really test it, but there is also a change in the output routing which is for me a real problem : the SPDIF outputs are now between the analog and ADAT, that is to say in position 9/10 instead of 17/18.

I know that you have already told me that you didn’t plan to add a custom selection of inputs and outputs in Podium 😥
But now when I work with 16 channels sound I will have to use 18 outputs, and add some plugin to shift the channels 9 to 16 in position 11 to 18.
It is not of course a big problem, but it would be VERY nice, some day, to be able to choose the outputs that are used, like in Steinberg, Motu or even EnergyXT, not only deactivate them…
    Thanks.

This is a wdm driver isn’t it ?

As far as I understand it has no advantages for apps using ASIO drivers. Is this correct ?

Isn’t it aimed more at apps that perform better with wdm…eg. Sonar ?

No, sorry. Drag & drop only.

Also presets sometimes import with no name (either from fxb banks or from fxp files (all of which have the preset name in the file title). Is this related to the original preset programming ?

fxb files do not have an internal bank name, so the imported bank object is named after the filename.
fxp files have an internal VST program name, which Podium uses for the preset object, rather than the filename.

I guess the fxp/fxb files that, after importing, have no specific identifying name have not been given an internal VST program name correctly ?

Excellent Frits – that worked a treat !

Incidently, is there an easy way to rearrange the contents of my huge VST instrument folder ?

The plugins are not in strict alphabetical order (presumably relating to their order in the Steinberg VSTi folder) and it’s a bit confusing trying to locate particular plugins.

I tried a windows-style right click to see if they could be sorted by name but to no avail.

PS Also presets sometimes import with no name (either from fxb banks or from fxp files (all of which have the preset name in the file title). Is this related to the original preset programming ?

After you have set up a track with the Taupro, and activated monitoring to load the plugins, use the ‘new program library preset’ track menu. Enter the properties dialog for the new preset object in the preset panel, and use the ‘import’ button.

    thanks

I did this for a few fxb banks but all that imports into the library folder is an object with no actual presets listed

    e.g. “Vintage synth”

I’m living of my life savings, which can sustain me for at least a year before I will reevaluate whether Zynewave can be a fulltime occupation for me. I hope eventually to get the features implemented that will make Podium “big”.

Wow – you must have squirreled away a sizable wedge…isn’t the cost of living in Denmark pretty high ?…… 😉

Oh dear…then I’m going to have to do this all over again 🙁

I did try to drag the plugin folders into the “Instruments” folder I created but it didn’t seem to work. The dragged folder would just move to next to the “Instruments” folder, not actually INTO it…

    thanks

All device definitions (in Device Mappings dialogue) are set as “none” – so I have to go through each one manually and set it to appropriate plugin definition ?

Also, the TauPro default bank is crap – it just has 32 identical basic presets. So I moved all the fxb & fxp files I’ve downloaded off the net into the Taupro vst folder.

These are not imported into Podium – just the basic crap fxb. Is this a limitation of Taupro ?

There doesn’t appear to be a preset import facility in the Taupro gui – is it possible for me to still access these extra presets from Podium ?
