On the track where you are recording the Synth1 audio output, is that assigned with an audio input mapping?
Should I expect a big difference due to this dual processor development.
If you’re using a hyperthreading CPU, then the difference will not be that big. To verify that your machine is multiprocessing capable, open the preferences dialog in Podium, and check that the ‘enable plugin multiprocessing’ option on the audio page is selected.
The samplerate also shows 88200 for your new project. Just to clarify; the samplerate is set in the arrangement properties dialog. The samplerate set in the interfaces dialog is used as default when creating new arrangements.
The arrangement in your project is set to 88200 Hz samplerate. Are your sound files recorded in this samplerate too?
Do you accept paypal as a payment?
Yes I do, although I prefer share-it payments. If you email me the exact mail address used with your PayPal account, and the country you live in, I can email you a PayPal invoice.
Will this release support Pentium Hyper Threading where one processor acts like two.
Yes. This is available in the latest 1.38 release.
What it was with recording was, when I pressed the R for record on the Midi track I wanted to record, and the R for record on the mix in left+right track I wanted to record to…
So you are trying to record the audio output of an external synth? I thought you were trying to bounce record a synth plugin. The delay you hear are due to the audio driver latency, as you already have noticed. Podium can compensate for the latency during playback, but it requires that the mapping on the MIDI track is associated with the mapping on the audio track. You are probably using pure audio input mappings. First I’ll recommend that you read the ‘Devices’ chapter in the guide. It tries to explain how external hardware mappings work.
Also just one more question, hows the progress with the karma fx synth going, have you sorted the problem with the dll out yet?
Yes. 1.38 has a fix for the blank menus. I’ve since discovered another problem with Karma where the buttons in some of the Podium dialogs goes blank. As this is not a critical error, it’s going to take a while before it is fixed. I’m in the process of removing the use of the shared system dll file that is causing these conflicts.
Hi Phoenix,
I have to ask though, I am a previous tracktion user and was horrified by the drop-off in support, terrible 2.x release and split of the product. Is there a chance that if an offer existed, would podium be taken up by a larger company?
I understand your concern. I have been reading the kvr forums from long before I announced Podium publicly, so I feel I know what people expect and how they react to the evolution of a one-man audio software company.
I obviously cannot make any guarentees of the Podium future. All I can say is that I have spent the last 15 years of my life shaping this application, so I am not about to hand it over to a major corporation and witness them changing it to something similar to the established sequencers on the market. I’m sticking to my vision.
If Podium becomes a big commercial success, I may find myself unable to cope with the support questions. In that case I would be looking for help or some sort of cooperation, so that I can dedicate most of my time to development.
I hope that answers some of your questions.

In the previous version, the second graph was always lower than the first one. Now the second shows an activity which is more or less equal to the first.
Great, then the multiprocessing is active. The distributed plugin processing may be the cause for your improved sound file playback. This is probably why you don’t see a big percentage drop in the Podium CPU indicator. The CPU time that is gained in the plugin processing is spent on the file streaming.
37 minutes X 16 channels X 48 kHz X 32 bits = 6.35 Go…
Implementing support for wave files larger than 2 GB will only go up to 4 GB. If you need more than that, then it will have to be saved in an alternative wave file format, which we have discussed some time ago. I’ll see if I can implement the ‘export as mono files’ command.
I have not noticed a special CPU average consumption difference, perhaps 2 or 3 percents less
When you open the Windows Task Manager, do you have two ‘CPU Usage History’ panels? Do both panels show similar percentages when Podium is playing?
…but the CPU indicator goes less often to 100 % and there is less clicks (but there were more in the 1.37 than in the 1.36)
In the 1.38 release I removed the RME specific buffer underrun detection that was introduced in 1.37. Furthermore in this release I also boosted the Podium process priority when monitoring is activated. This will reduce occurences of CPU spikes, since other Windows tasks will less likely steal CPU time from Podium.
there is less “holes” in tracks due to “disc streaming issue” (?)
I don’t understand. Are you saying that audio file streaming/recording is improved with this release?
Hi stu,
Sorry for the late reply. I wanted to get the latest multiprocessing release done before looking into other things.
1) Problem with synth 1 (Daichi). When storeing libary presets within a project, the name of the patch that is in bank 0, and position 0 within that bank is displayed and not the one you want to store. It is displayed in the presets section in Podium.
I did some tests with Synth1. If I select a preset in Synth1 and then use the ‘New’ button, I get a library preset with the proper name. However, I found a bug that would make a previously assigned library preset adopt the name of the new preset. Maybe this is the bug you observed. Fix will be in 1.39.
2) When I go to record a midi note sequence to an audio track I try to get a better level first, when I do this there is always what sounds like a 1/16 delay on the material I want to record.
I looked at your project file, and it seems ok. When you say you record a note sequence to an audio track, do you mean bounce-record? Is the delay appearing in the recorded audio track?
Frits, no plan for such a travel ?
I don’t have any plans for holiday trips this year, but it sounds like a nice place to spend a few days 🙂
I was surfing your site, but could not find any mp3 files. Do you have any links to examples of your music, preferrably in stereo downmixes?
Great initiative Conquistador,
I voted ‘I’m happy to leave it to Frits to decide’ :clown:
Any chance you will be able to test Podium on the 64bit Windows version at some point in future?
I don’t have any plans of installing 64bit Windows on my dual-core system yet. If users report problems with Podium running on 64bit XP, I’ll probably have to spend some time with it. As I understand it, you’ll need 64bit driver support for soundcards, before it can be used as a stable DAW.
I’ve done some initial tests on a 3.0 GHz hyperthreading enabled system. While the extra CPU headroom varies more than on my dual-core system, I’ve still managed to get up to 70% extra CPU utilization with some arrangements. I was expecting something like 10-30%, so I’m amazed at how much you can gain with proper hyperthreading support 😯
Still need to sort out a few issues, but I expect to make a release the coming weekend.
