I confirm that with 1.63 the playing of projects have problems for me : big drop outs after some minutes and the interface of Podium and Windows becomes very slow to refresh (several seconds to open a window).

I had to re-install this version to be able to bounce some files larger than 2 Gb, but I unistall it and re-install the 1.62 : the playing is normal (usual short drop outs from time to time) and no more slow refresh.

    Waiting for 1.64 🙂

I used an arrangement like yours as test scenario for doing some optimizations on the engine. I have spent a couple of days profiling and experimenting with e.g. SSE optimizations. I’ve now managed to squeeze another 5% performance out of the engine when working with a large number of audio channels/plugins.

I can get close to 60 classic compressor tracks, with a buffer size of 512 and a Pentium D 2.8 (multiprocessing disabled). What buffer size and CPU are you using?

    Just catching up here sorry…

I am actually using a buffer size of 392 in Tracktion and getting 57 tracks playing back.

This was an unfortunate side-effect of the changes in 1.63. I have fixed this for 1.64.

Forgot to answer the scond half of your question…my CPU is a Pentium D 2.8GHZ.

    Just tried 1.64 and…

The optimizations are pretty good. I can now play about the exact same no. of tracks in Tracktion and Podium give or take a track or two.

I would say it is actually pretty much identical as Tracktions CPU meter does not show you the actual value as a percentage compared to Podiums more detailed CPU reading.

Also Tracktions playback seems to break up earlier than Podium. Say before it reaches 95%. Podium is a bit better in this area.

Well done on the optimizations. 🙂

Thanks for testing. I’m glad weeks of meticulous optimizations resulted in a noticeable improvement.

Just wanted to say, that my “biggest” project plays absolutely fine!! Many tracks in 24 bits! I feel a huge improvement!
