Topic: MIDI routing conflict?

I’ve hooked up two MIDI keyboards to my M-Audio USB MIDISport interface. The first keyboard is connected via the second, and both keyboards are playing on different MIDI-channels connected to port one on the interface. MIDI is then recieved in Podium and sucessfully routed out to my Nord Rack on port two. I can play two different sounds at the same time this way. On the Nord Rack, local parameter changes are disabled and routed to MIDI out only for sequencer use. All good so far 8)

    But…

I assign one of my keyboards to play the Nord Rack, MIDI from the keyboards successfully reaches the synth. The synth responds, and controller messages are effective. But, the controller messages from the synth’s control panel never echoes back from Podium. To fix this, I have to disable the MIDI input mapping for the keyboard. Only then will controller messages echo back from Podium and recorded as curve events, but then the synth cannot be played from the keyboard.

Is this the way it’s supposed to be, or am I doing something wrong?
I’ve tried troubleshooting this for the last 3 hours or so with no luck. Please help! :frustrated:

PS. Love the new improvements! 😉

If I understood your setup correctly, it is behaving as designed. I can verify it if you email me a minimal project file with just the synth mappings and the track setup.

I assume your nord rack mapping is configured as both MIDI input and output, and your keyboards are mapped as generic MIDI inputs. When you assign the MIDI input mapping to the nord track, this will override the input functionality of the nord mapping. If this is the problem, I need to check the code to see if it is possible to enable MIDI input both from the dedicated MIDI input mapping and the synth mapping.

    Correct.

This is exactly what’s happening I think.
Yes, the synthesizer has both the input and output midi ports connected to the USB MIDI interface in order to send and recieve control change messages for automation. In this case on in/out-ports 2, while the keyboards are on input port 1 only on the interface.

Minimal, stripped down project file sent to info@zynewave.com

Really appreciate your quick response! 8)

Podium 1.53 will be released within a day or two. It has support for using MIDI inputs both from an input mapping and an external device mapping on the same track.
