In the select/pencil tool actions section of ‘piano roll region properties’ there is a key shortcut option for ‘audition + select add’. I can’t work out how this differs from ‘audition + select’ ?

“add” is short for “add to selection”. It will select events on the key you press, but not reset selection of other events.
