Strange. I cannot find the Load device Setup in the Project Templates Sub menu. Is there some sort of trigger to get it to appear?

I only see these three commands…

    Save Project As Template
    Explore Templates Folder
    Update Templates List

    Crash yesterday…

It was with 1.99 though not 2.00. No crash yet with 2.00. I noticed the graphics in Podium (cursor) will sometimes stop if I am moving a knob or similar on an FX GUI is that normal? I have a powerful graphics card 8800GT 512MB so it seems a bit odd to see Podium not updating the cursor…or is this normal ❓ ❓

One thing I can say is I sincerely doubt having a powerful graphics card will decrease or increase your chances of getting that sort of issue. Even rudimentary cards these days *should* be able to support any interface such as Podium’s.

Agreed and I think I just found the culprit or culprits

    Block Fish and Endorphin.

Excellent plugs but as is sometimes the case with freebies they have not been updated for ages and are unlikely to be in future.

    @ Frits

Simply loading up either of these plugs and moving a knob will stop Podiums cursor (on Vista anyway). Playback appears to be fine but I think I was using Endorphin when I had my crash yesterday. Either that or the ZPEQ. There were on the same track. It was quite a nasty crash that forced me to hard boot my PC. Just saw a black screen and cursor…messy.

The plugs seem perfectly fine otherwise but I wonder if the graphics interruption might make Podium likely to crash at some point?

I have just tried a number of other plugs (with much heavier CPU usage) and they do not graphically starve the cursor.

It would be great if there was a nice single and multiband Zynewave compressor set. That way I could side step issues like this. There are other really good (problem free) freebies out there but a native Zynewave plug would be ideal IMO.

I had a good look at the entire multi-processing code and managed to optimize some parts of the code.

Hmmmm…I loaded up a project in P2.B4 and I cannot see *any* differrence in CPU time. Am I looking in the wrong place or is there some sort of scenario that would produce even a slight difference in CPU readings?

It’s a minor optimization. You probably won’t notice it on the CPU % meter.

The “New Project” and “Load Device Setup” submenus only appear when you have saved at least one project template. How can I make this more obvious? Should I add empty submenus and grey them out to indicate that there are no templates?

It depends on the plugin. When you drag a knob/slider on a plugin editor, it’s the plugins responsibility to periodically provide the host with idle calls so that the host can update its UI. Some plugins may fail to do this, and thus the host animations appears to stop until you release the mouse button. It has nothing to do with the graphics card.

    Ah, ok.

Yes please! In the absence of more up to date written material (although P2 is not out yet, and I know it’s hard work updating it all) I would say yes. 🙂

If you grey out the submenus that at least shows the commands are there. As a regular user of Podium I gussed there was a likely ‘trigger’ but still got lost. Someone using the demo for instance would very likely *not* guess the appearance of those sub menus depends on at least one saved project template.

If possible maybe an info line (as you have done with many of the commands in Podium) could be added so that when a users cursor is over the command they can see the info /message line giving a short description of it. In this case it could be “Loads devices once a project template is saved”.

Thanks for the clarification on that. Sacha to be fair updated his plugs (sort of) as commercial plugs, which appear to work very well in Podium. AM suite e.t.c. 8)

Load device set up works really well Frits! I just dug up an almost ancient project (2006) and threw it at the Load device set up feature to see what it’s really made of 😛 …it just snapped it up in a few clicks and updated my devices! Lovely

Most of my new projects have a more recent device set up that does not need updating but there are *many* other older projects I can finally get back to! Yessssss! 🙂

Combine this with the merge project addition and the other P2 features and you have a really nice update!

Thanks Frits! ➡
