Hum, sure it will be nice.
And when will we see fades and levels on audio clips ?

    Sorry…. 😕

Don’t worry, I’ll get back to that. As I said in the first post, I felt a need to do something on the UI, as a break from the low-level stuff.

    I understand of course.

I am not really anxious, just a little impatient since now two years !

It is really pleasant to work with a so pretty DAW, but I confess that the features that allow me to compose and that optimize the work are more appreciated for me…

However that may be, people will see now that Podium is ready for Vista 😉

Did I say how much I like the new page designs? 😆 Fabuloso! 😀

For added coolness, wait until you see the pulsating create button 8)

Now that really would be the cherry on an already tasty looking cake

1.66 is released with the first stage of the project start page. I’ll continue adding some features for the next release, such as:

Menu button at the top of the devices panel with plugin scan and import, as well as some of the other options found in the project wizard.

Possibility to create new folders in both arrangements and devices list, and dragging objects around like in the list window.

Context menu on arrangements with ‘duplicate’ commands for the entire arrangement or just the track layout.

    Other suggestions?

This is a great new look. I much prefer it to the previous start page.

The only thing that I could think of as an improvment would be maybe the placement of boxes on the page. It would be great if you could place and size the boxes where and how you want but to make things easier it might be an idea to have a selection of layouts.

For example, I would prefer to have the left most boxes to the right, but them someone else might have different preferences.

When you get right down to it this is pretyy trivial, as everything you need is on that screen. I think the info area at the bottom is great.

Just need those fades and controller support..

    Okay… One thing that’s missing. I can’t add a plugin from the new page…

In the intial screen shot you provided there is an icon which I believe would open a menu. It’s not present here.

Also… shift_ctrl_i does nothing, so to add a plugin I need to back to the old view…

Very nice Frits! I love the logical pulsating behaviour of the buttons. It’s not just nice to look at, but also helps to guide a new user to the next logical step. Complete one step and the next button pulsates e.t.c

I am guessing that the create button will not pulsate until Podium is satisfied the user has completed the three simple steps required to get it to function properly first. A great idea.

Just checked, the create button dissapears if you deselect your audio / midi device so Podium intelligently will not even let you see the create button until you complete all the steps required. Very logical and very helpful for new and existing users IMHO.:)

Also the short message “The project device setup is now done…” This is exactly what I was talking about 🙂 thank you. 8)

I have more suggestions but will put them together later. Great work! 😀

And also all the regular menu buttons that are available in the other windows I suppose : File / Edit / View / Setup ?

A different zone for Device (audio and MIDI) and Plugins.
I understand that from the engine point of view all of this are mappings, but for the user, the Audio and MIDI devices with there inputs and outputs consitute something different from the plugins.

It is the same in the inspector of the arrange view : it seems (to me) to be more logical and faster to use to have a Device category where to choose the output mappings AND the audio and MIDI inputs, and a distinct Plugin category where we find only the plugins…

And also all the regular menu buttons that are available in the other windows I suppose : File / Edit / View / Setup ?

These menus are all available on the start page through the round context menu buttons. The button at the top left corner has the setup and view menus. The project menu button has the file menus. The edit menu is not relevant on the start page, as this was specific to the browser page.

I tried first to keep the toolbar from the browser page on the start page, but it seemed like a waste of space to me and I wanted to maximize the available height for the list panels. Is it a problem that the start page menu buttons are round? I could try to show the standard square menu buttons instead, but I don’t think it will look good.

it seems (to me) to be more logical and faster to use to have a Device category

Couldn’t this be solved by using folders? Currently the plugin import will place plugin mappings directly in the device list root. If you have your plugins sorted in folders on the disk, then these will be imported in folder objects in the project. Would you prefer plugins were put inside a ‘plugins’ folder instead of the root?

When using the new “New Project” setup is it possible to disable the plugin scan when creating the project.

The reason I ask is that the scan freezes when it hits the JCM900 vst. The only way to get out of is to abort then close Podium.

Hmm, not the most beatiful solution; but you could hit the abort button just after the import dialog appears.
