I’ve noticed an issue with Jamstix and Podium. If I set up a drum pattern in Jamstix and loop it over a couple of bars, it will slowly consume cpu to the point it starts popping/crackling. Depending on the complexity of the drum pattern, this can occur over a couple of minutes for a more complex pattern and a little over 10 minutes for a simpler pattern.
When I initially start the pattern it will bounce between 25 to30% cpu but grows to well over 90%. I’ve tried the same with other synths and it seems to be okay (no cpu creep). I’ve tried the same pattern in Traction and cpu utilization stays constant.
I’m going to post this over at the Rayzoon forum as well.

The Jamstix guys had me do a couple of checks and based on this think it might be a problem with Podium. In checking this out with them I noticed that as CPU went up, available memory was going down. With this in mind they have load indicator which gives a representation of the samples being played at any particular point in time. While this number varies depending on the pattern it stayed consistently in the 42 to 52 range. Their thoughts were that if this number increased over time, then Jamstax wasn’t properly releasing samples from memory. Since it stayed constant this isn’t the case.
So it seems there is a memory leak happening. If there is anything in particular you would like me to try let me know.

I have downloaded the latest Jamstix demo, and I will look into it one of the coming days. I’ve got my head wrapped around another fun new feature which I would like to wrap up first.
Not a problem.
The jamstix boys had me disable the “output midi to host” function as they felt that this is something that most vst instruments wouldn’t support and might be why jamstix causes a problem and others don’t. I tried it but it didn’t make any difference.
I will spend some more time testing and if I find anything else I’ll let you know.
I’ll see if I get another synth to do this as well. Do you know of any other (free) synths that might be sample based?
I put JamStix on a track, select ‘Free Jam’, and activate loop in Podium. Playback over several minutes does not seem to do anything to available memory. Should I do something special in Jamstix to set it up the way you use it? Maybe email me your project file with your setup.
Email sent earlier today. I’m trying a new email program and it was giving me a bit of grief but I think it went out eventually. Let me know if you didn’t get it.
There will be a new beta for Jamstix on Monday that fixes this issue.
another problem with Jamstix.
I am using Jamstix Beta 1833 and Podium v1.60.
If I try to do an offline render of the jamstix track the system will feeze at the completion of the render. The only way to clear the problem is to restart the system.
The real time render works fine and offline render seems to work fine on audio tracks.
If I uncheck “Unload plugins when bounce is activated” it works fine and do an offline render it works fine.
The problem does not exist with other instruments.
Hey Darcy!
This seems similar to my problem with Halion. There it is related to the “unload from Ram” feature. When I check this box before I render, I get a crash. So I only check it after offline bouncing. This way I can avoid the crash.

We’ll wait for a statement by Zynewave on this one before looking any further as rendering with Jamstix works fine in other hosts.

Hmmm, I was kind of hoping Jamstix issues had been cleared up. It’s a great VSTi to use in Podium. I tried the demo with Jamstix triggering Stylus RMX, quite an experience 8)
I suppose I could plug Jamstix into Phrazor hosted in Podium. A fix if possible would be better though.
It seems strange that a fix would elude two of the most responsive developers I have known.
I had CPU spikes in Podium last time I used Jamstix in P.
Edit:…having said that I used Jamstix months ago in Podium, I might dabble with the latest version of Jamstix. 😉

The CPU issues of JS in Podium are solved in the latest Jamstix beta.

Thanks for the update! I guess the reputation you guys have for fixing bugs remains intact. 😉
Darcy, is the rendering problem still present in Jamstix Beta 1836? If so, could you send me your rzdlog.txt file after the failed rendering?
I will give it a try this evening.
