I changed my PC device type in XP device manager from ACPI Computer to MPS Multiprocessor PC (which then had to refind all my devices etc) and since then podium seems to be running with a lot more cpu left over….. God knows why! I am using xp bare naked edition (and this was so before changing device type too) which has had all the services stripped out include power management, so my pc wasn’t waking up after going to sleep, which is why i had to change it. I have absolutely no idea why it is running faster now, but my sample making tracks (for offline bounce) which were previously maxing out the cpu (when played online) now are running at a cool 67% instead. Also xp won’t show my cpu as 2 in task manager anymore, but does in device manager. I wonder if it is multiprocessing differently now? Just though i’d share this with you :).

update: podium also doesn’t show a multiprocessing option now. But I think XP must still be using hyperthreading because it displays two mps computers in device manager, plus I am having at least 33% more spare cpu. Therefore, this seems a good workaround for multiprocessing podium stabley…. Does this mean XP is allocating resources itself, instead of allowing apps to choose which processor they run on? Does anybody else want to try this, just to prove i am not dreaming? 🙂

If the multiprocessing check-box in Podium preferences is shown as disabled, then Podium is not using multiprocessing for the plugins. I am not sure what is happening with your system.

I’ve never heard of this “XP bare naked edition”. Google did not enlighten me either. Do you have a link?

Oh it is a torrent… i don’t think the torrent is up anymore. Someone basically took the XP setup files and stripped out all the unneccesary services, games etc. It boots in about 2 seconds with the drive defragged by name hehe 🙂 Whatever has happened, it seems to be consistantly running faster, even than my old XP setup set to acpi.
