Ok, I’m sure a bit of this comes from me not using Podium day-in, day-out. But I find it a bit confusing.

In the rack area, and track panel, when I click on the source I get two different lists depending on whether I right-click the bar or left-click the arrow in the bar. Has it always been this way? I never really noticed it before because I always right-click.

    Left-click

    Right-click

Yes, that’s normal, and it’s the same with empty effect track selectors.
Left clicking an empty slot gives you the list of assignable devices without having to use an extra menu entry (right-click -> instrument list as opposed to right-click -> source -> instrument list). When a device is assigned, left-clicking a selector button opens the plug-in editor, as I’m sure you’ve noticed.
Now, what right-clicking does is always opening the actual track context menu – whether or not a device has been assigned. I assume the right-click menu contains an entry for adding an effect for cases where the user has disabled the add effect “+” buttons.

How would you change it to make it less confusing?

If you open the “Source” submenu in screenshot 2, then that menu should match the menu you have on screenshot 1. The choices in the source menu are devices that generate audio, such as instruments and returns. The reason that your “Effects>Compressor” menu is included as a source, is because the mappings are return mappings. The displayed FabFilter mappings are probably returns. If you look at the FabFilter mappings in the “insert new effect” menu, you should see the corresponding send mappings.

Thanks for the replies. I think the issue is really in my head more than anything else. See what you can’t see in that picture is that I had already selected an input for the track. In my way of thinking (which is often times confusing even for me) the input IS the source. Anything after that just affects the source. So, once you have a device (hardware input) that can generate audio, anything else in the chain afterwards is in essence an effect. However this would not apply to midi so I see where I erred in thinking (or not thinking).

But you are both correct, I see where I am mistaken. It comes from heavy use of other hosts where the same filtering of options is involved its just presented a bit different. If I had given it even an ounce of thought it would have occurred to me that an input device is still needed separate from the sound generator on a track. Sorry 😳

I gotta stop posting here when I’m sleepy…

And thcilnnahoj, you were so correct in the other thread by stating that I need to use the app more. If I did I wouldn’t have these small hurdles…

Erm… I must’ve been half-asleep too, as in retrospect, it seems I didn’t look at the pictures long enough and posted something not very relevant to your question. 😆

It’s always nice to see people showing interest in this great program, especially when they already own a few others. That would mean Podium still has something nice to offer you. 🙂
