Whenever I make a track a send return source the input disappears on every track that is same level child of the same group, lower level child or the same group, and its parent regardless of of its input assignment.

Once the input assignment has been made (or hasn’t been made) you can’t change it, unless you unassign the send return.

Is there something I’m overlooking here?

Well, I agree this may be confusing. Podium tries to make the intelligent decision, that the input selector should be hidden from all tracks in the bus return section, since having an input assigned in the return section is useful only in rare cases. When you assign a child track as a bus return, the entire group under the master track will become part of the bus return section. Perhaps it would be less confusing if the input selector always remain visible?

Yea I think it would be better if input stayed up

Its not really too confusing if you know whats happening and when.

Is really more of an inconvenience/annoyance than anything.

Interesting. What would be an example of an alternative input for a Bus Return (other than the Bus send)? Just curious… :-k

Also, in line with Lion’s question above, do you think that the default behavior on the bus sends should be to turn off/hide the gain slider? I find that the first thing I want to do with a bus each time is duck the original so that I can listen to the Return only (wet)?

It’s not difficult to turn it on (i use templates mostly anyway), it’s just, you have to know to do it.
