Made this short video yesterday with my webcam, hence the noisy picture… It’s the principle of operation that counts here πŸ™‚

    Get the video here

The video also shows me using the trackball next to the tablet.
Once MIDITab is running, the cursor no longer is movable under tablet control, so I have to use the trackball to do things with the cursor.

This video does not involve Podium in any way. However, I’ve tried recording the controller data from MIDITab with good results. The only problem I met was that I had to create empty automation sequences, for each parameter beforehand to avoid “jumps” in controller values, whenever the sequences is automatically extended during recording.

Anyone else with a drawing tablet here? Try this out, it’s great fun! πŸ˜€

Hehe, that seems like fun. I have a Wacom tablet, but unfortunately it is gathering dust in the closet because I don’t have space for it in my current work-setup. I remember reading the Wacom SDK some years ago, and thinking; hey that would be cool to make this into a MIDI controller. I’m glad somebody did.

    I use also an Intuos.
I’ve bought it for MIDITab, but in fact I use it mainly with Podium.:D
I do a lot of editing in the Sound Editor window, and Podium has the more precise and fast waveform edition with the stylus, for me far better than in SoundForge or Nuendo.

I have mapped some key combinations to the buttons of the Tablet so I don’t have to deal anymore with the multiple Alt / Ctrl / Shift modifiers keys ! Phew…
And the ribbon replaces the mouse wheel + Ctrl + Alt for the horizontal zoom : wonderful !

I only regret that I can’t really use the XY zoom because of the inverted horizontal zoom direction (from right to left instead of from left to right). It would be terrific !

    Hey Acusmod

I agree. When I started to use my stylus again, I wonder how I’ve managed to forget how fast and precise I can work with it.

How are your stylus buttons mapped?

Does your Intuos have a ribbon? How old is it? Hmm! *checks Wacom website*

Perhaps we could do a feature request for an optional reversal of this?

Thanks Frits and Acusmod, for your interrest in this topic =)

How are your stylus buttons mapped?

I have mapped the four left buttons on the tablet with Alt (for resizing sequences), Ctrl+Shift (for vertical zoom of individual channels in the sound editor), Alt+Shift (for slide tool) and also the space for start/stop.
I have mapped the ribbon with Ctrl+Alt+Defilement (fast) wich gives an excellent horizontal zoom.

I have also tried to use the second button of the stylus for resizing or the slide tool, but I have found it not obvious to use…

The good point with the tablet’s buttons and ribbon is that all the functions can be trigged with my left thumb without having to move the hand and even, with the habit, to look at the tablet.
I could hardly use Podium without it now !

What I would like in the future, is to replace the resize command with a “split” one, when it will be available, and when the resizing of the sequences will be done without a special tool (I hope so !).

How old is it? Hmm! *checks Wacom website*

Are you aware of some problems with the ribbon ?

Perhaps we could do a feature request for an optional reversal of this?

Hmmmmm, I’ve already tried, but the lack of answer has let me thought that it was not a good suggestion πŸ˜‰
But we can try once more ! The XY zoom could be such a wonderfull feature.

Have you tried MIDITab as a VST inside Podium ?
