ElanParticipantWhat soundcard do you recommend if you don’t care about DSP effects and just want smooth sailing? I got an Emu 1212m and I won’t use the DSP if it causes that much trouble. Will I still have troubles with it in general?

MaxParticipantHello Argitoth.
I’ve wrote about problems with EMU 0404 on my system. Just to make it clear for other users – it’s not Podium related trouble. My 0404 works bad with all hosts I own or ever tried. AFAIK, some of EMU soundcards users (like me) still got the problems even with the latest drivers (1.82 atm). For the other users it works ok. If you already have 1212m and it works nice in your host – there will be no problems with Podium also.
I’m going to replace my 0404 with Creamware souncard. But I DO care about DSP software 🙂 Take a look at ESI or M-Audio souncards. There’s no problem with ASIO drivers AFAIK.

ElanParticipantlol, I’ve never used my 1212m, i’m in the process of building a new computer.

darcyb62ParticipantOkay…
After spending a great deal of time with the demo, I’ve decided to make the jump to Podium. For me, it would be nice to have the crossfades in place but I can work around that limitation for the time being.
A question… Since I am coming from Tracktion which has a small suite of plugins that can only be used within tracktion I am going to have acquire a decent set of plugins. I have tried most of the freebee stuff but would be looking to purchase some commercial products if the price is reasonable.
For mastering I am looking at Ozone. From there I’m not really sure where to go so would be looking for some recommendations.
I have been looking at the Kjaerhus Gold plugs along with some of the Voxengo commercial stuff but I’m not really sure.
For a start plugs I would be looking for include:
Single and multi band eq
Single and multiband compression
Reverb
Delay
ChorusI’m sure there are others and if you could give me ideas on other must haves it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers….
Darcy

ZynewaveKeymasterHi Darcy,
I’m glad to hear you’ve decided to go with Podium.
For a start plugs I would be looking for include:
Single and multi band eq
Single and multiband compression
Reverb
Delay
ChorusI don’t have any recommendations, but I thought I’d mention that I’m currently working on some basic plugins designed for use with Podium. These plugins will have an editor that is integrated into the track inspector. The next release will have support for VST 2.4 with 64-bit processing, and to test this I have made a simple parametric EQ that supports 64-bit processing. The EQ plugin will not be included in the next 1.52 release, but soon after.

Great ❗
@Darcy:
I vote for Voxengo GlissEQ and Voxengo Marquis Compressor. Everybody loves Arts Acoustic Reverb, but it costs 200$ and I think that kjaerhus classic reverb + aries reverb + SIR maybe (all freeware) can replace it. As for delay and chorus – I also prefer freeware kjaerhus classic plugs. Sounds great.

ChorusThe BEST plugins in those departments are riduclously overpriced (Waves) but if you’ve got that kind of money, look nowhere else.
Although I hate on free plugins a lot, there are some ones I’ve tried which are awesome. Go here:
http://www.digitalfishphones.com
And get every plugin this guy makes. They sound spectacular.
For your basic chorus and delay use those Kjaerhaus free plugins at their site. I like their chorus a lot.
For verb, once I started using convolution verbs, I can’t go back to the synthesized ones, so go with Altiverb…it’s not free or cheap, but I don’t know of any free ones in that department.
And for good, well-priced compression (multi and single), check Elemental Audio Neodynium. I love it.
See if you like any of those.

Altiverb is only for Mac, isn’t it? I’ve already mentioned SIR – it’s the convolution reverb for PC and it’s freeware. It’s got only one problem – latency is too high, but it’s a problem only for live playing.

sugesParticipantOops yeah AltiVerb is only for Mac. I’m gonna try out this SIR business.

acousmodParticipantOther free convolution reverb plugins :
Convolver (DX) – http://convolver.sourceforge.net/
Convoby (VST), the free version – http://www.elevayta.com/
Convolver (VST) – http://www.teragon.org/products/Convolver/index.html
RevolverbLite (VST) – http://revolverb.hostrocket.com/ (simple but realtime)There is also some which are not free but great for the price :
– Rayspace ( http://www.dhoskins.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/software.html ) which don’t use impulse response files but synthesize them in real time
– Voxengo’s Pristine Space which can be compared with Altiverb (not the look !), but which is not sold with impulse responses ( http://www.voxengo.com/pspace/ )Look at this thread on KVR : http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=107337&sid=c50e0601e664703428a0574486eb7bba

darcyb62ParticipantI appreciate the feedback…
It looks like I have a bit more playing (hmmmm… testing) to do with some of these suggestions….
Thanks much…

darcyb62ParticipantWow… I took a look at Elemental Audio’s Neodynium and Eqium products, and I must say I am impressed…
