Don’t be alarmed. This is not directly related to Podium.
The virus was found by ClamWin in C:WINDOWSsystem32msidev.exe. Allthough I’m not entirely sure, I think this is related to the Microsoft Installer Package file format, and as we know, Podium is distributed in this format.
Are there anyone else here using ClamWin that can confirm this as a false positive?
How important is msidev.exe for the windows system in general? Can I delete it, or is a reinstall best to do?
I never heard of ClamWin before. I use http://www.avast.com which is free for home use. I don’t know how good it is at detection, because I have not had a virus on my PC so far.
I searched for msidev.exe in C:Windows, and I did not find this file neither on my W2K or XP machine. So I assume it is not required by the Podium installer. Maybe You can put the file in quarantine with WinClam.
I too use http://www.avast.com. As a dial-up user this was the best solution because of the incremental virus updates (I went broadband a few weeks ago). I would recommend it to anyone.
Its detected 3 or 4 viruses in the past 4ish years.
well…. another long time user of avast here. I’ve always been really impressed by them. No sooner does an alert appear than they’ve patched it.. makes you wonder who’s writing the darn things!!
