    Hi All,

I have a 4GB USB memory stick, just wondered does anyone out there use such devices for music recording, don’t USB sticks have better perf that hard disks?

I haven’t tried it yet just thought I’d see what folks recommended first.

    Thanks,
    Mike G

Hi Mike, you may be thinking of Solid State Drives which do, indeed, have better performance than your typical hard drive. Sadly, USB flash drives are not Solid State -just “flash” memory.

Flash memory is much slower than typical hard drives but can be used in limited audio recording situations, such as four-track recording at 16/44.1 or two-track recording at 24/96. A number of portable recorders use various forms of flash memory as their medium and there’s actually one that uses USB 2.0 as the transfer medium (it can also record to FAT 32 formatted hard drives in addition to USB flash memory).
