    Hi guys,

Let me introduce myself. My name is Vitaly. Currently a Cubase4’s user. As probably many of us, I’m getting rather frustrated with each update then pleased. So finally I’ve got to the point when I started to look around for alternative host. I do lots of midi programming, though sometimes it can be a pure audio project. I run external hardware and I already have all plug-ins I need. So what I’m looking for is a stable and convenient host, only. Of course, I’ll download Podium’s demo and try.
Yet, I’d like to ask Podium’s advanced users: What is the strength of Podium compare to other hosts? For example, ‘a unique hierarchic mixing engine’ isn’t a strength, it is more like a difference. But if you say ‘Podium lets you do better than others because it has a unique hierarchic mixing engine’, now this is a strength.

BTW Does Podium have a video track? Can’t find any info about it.

    Thank you,
    Vitaly.

Does Podium has a video track?

Not yet. Support for video is on the plan, but I can’t say when I’ll find the time to add support for it.

Podium allows you to create mappings for your external hardware synths and effects, so you can insert them just as easy as a vsti.
You can even store sysex patches in that mapping, allowing you to browse presets from podiums build in preset browser (and save the used presets in the projects)

This is a strength (especially if you use lots of hardware)

Basically if you take some time creating the mappings hardware gets almost all the benefits of a vsti.

The hierarchical engine allows you to freeze a track anywhere in the signal chain (after effect A, but before effect B).

    This is pretty cool.

Could you say if it is this year, at least?

    Thanks.

Sorry, I can’t. I’ve tried making long-term development predictions before, but they rarely became true, so I prefer not to make any promises. Often the course of development is guided by discussions and suggestions on this forum.

A huge strength of Podium is that Frits communicates directly with end-users. His version of “customer support” is by-and-large far superior than any other software I’ve used. Ever.

We’ve made bug reports or feature suggestions and they’ve been implemented the next week.

And, I believe the engine is a great strength and not merely a difference. It allows me to more quickly and efficiently accomplish certain tasks and achieve certain sounds than if I were using another host.

You know, the first time when I installed z3ta+ I was surprised to not come across any protection. No reg.number, neither any code, absolutely nothing. So I urgently wrote Rene (the developer) that he forgot to put some protection. He replied that he doesn’t care about it because the best way to attract customers is a ‘customer support’. In time I realized how right he was. So, I know exactly what you’re saying. It is one of the biggest.

Trust me, I didn’t want to harm your feelings I just want to know the benefits. Thank you.

Frits, I like you. We are the same regarding making promises 😀

I am in front of my comp on average 10-16 hours a day between work and play. One of the strengths for me is the appearance of the program. Its very easy on the eyes thus creating less fatigue during the longer sessions. The ability to customize that background is just one example in that well thought out interface. And it keeps getting better.

Another great strength is Frits’ support.

Thank you, all. I just downloaded Podium’s demo. Hopefully we’ll become friends.

    Fair enough.

Although Podium is a bit isolated in this area compared to other hosts. Tracktion, Reaper, FL e.t.c all have video support in one way or another.

I would say even very basic video support (one format) would at least be a start. Video support along with Rewire are still very important features. Pretty much every other host has them.

If you don’t know when you will have time for video support please if possible consider at least basic support of some kind as it is a weak area in Podium (especially at v.2 almost) and while it may not be the top most issue for current users…potential buyers (which are of course of interest to you) looking for this feature in Podium, will very likely look elsewhere.

Reaper (very close to Podiums price point) already supports…
AVI, WMV, MPG and .MOV. as an example and has done for a very long time.

Please if possible do try and consider putting some time aside to look at this area for Podium, even a basic implementation of it to start. There are certain potential users that are likely to simply pass Podium by without video support especially when you look at the competition at your price point.

    Just a thought.
