DigitalJediParticipantIs there an x64 version or will it be available soon?

roninParticipantSorry DigitalJedi, there is no x64 version and I guess it is not coming in the next months.
I my opinion there is no use case for an x64 version. Most people just don’t seem to like the “* 32” comment in the windows task manager πDecember 12, 2010 at 14:57 #19970
DigitalJediParticipantThe use case would be to use more than 4GB of ram which newer VST instruments already require. However my primary concern is, when switching to an x64 version later it might be impossible to load old project files because the x86 plugins referenced by the file do not exist anymore. I can’t really tell if this is gonna work.

ZynewaveKeymasterA while back I managed to compile a x64 version of Podium, but I have not had an opportunity to test and debug this on an x64 OS. I need to purchase a new PC with Windows 7 x64 before I can go further with this.
When Podium x64 is made available, it will only support x64 plugins. I don’t plan to implement my own 32/64 bit bridge system. For that purpose, you can use third-party plugins, such as:

roninParticipantWell, I could help testing those builds if you like. I have no personal need for these builds but if I can be of any use, I’d like to help π

At the time I think Conquistador tested the x64 build I made, and it didn’t work. So I left it there. I need to run it in a debugger to find where it goes wrong.

ConquistadorParticipantYep I did test it back then, but I am still happy to spend more time on a new build if you want. π

I may be able to do that too but probably you would have to provide a build with debugging information compiled in. At least a build with some symbols in it would do so I can provide some more or less valid stack traces.

DigitalJediParticipantI’ve got an x64 build environment running too, so if I can be of any help to speed things up… Is everybody a developer here? π

InfinitoarParticipantI’m not a dev sadly. I’m just some “guy” with lots of good ideas for Podium. π However, I was wondering my next PC build will be having a x64bit O.S. , namely Windows Vista Ultimate, but I was wondering does this mean there is no x64bit Podium version on ANY x64bit version of Windows or just Windows 7? It may sound stupid to ask, but I figure it’s also good to know, just in case I have to have one HDD with a windows x32bit version and another with a x64bit version.

Thanks for the offer, but I fear it will take a lot of beta versions before it will be working. It’s going to be much quicker if I can step through the code and fix things as I go along. Even if we do get it working, I won’t be releasing it until I have an x64 Windows machine that I can test with before each new release.

You should be able to run the current Podium 32bit version on any 64bit Windows OS. The main limitation is that Podium won’t be able to use more than 4 GB RAM. However, if you use the jbridge wrapper plugin, you can go beyond the 4 GB for each plugin.
Plenty of users are running Podium on 64bit Windows 7, according to this poll:

throbertParticipantgood to hear of the possibility, Zyne. Do you have an ideal if there will be an xp64 bit version or is way too early to tell

It should work on XP64, but I will only be testing it on W7 64.
