πŸ˜† Indeed Tele. Not discussing it won’t help. But we’re not really having a discution, as in a dialog. I am not being mean, sarcastic or whatever. Fact is WE (actually not all of us, but some) wrote here what WE believe, but not much of a reaction from Frits.

I am not saying different than you. I am just sayin that personally, sort of lost hope that Podium will go forward much, in a reasonable period of time. I am not at all saying it’s dead (I remember this discussion here on forum a while back) but neither it bring’s up updates that are relevant to FR lists we’re talking about. I am right or not?

Anyway, I think what Frits does taking Podium into mobile devices, allthough I don’t see it as important, might be interesting for many users. I mean, there must be a market for that since many big names already released versions for mobile. Let’s see if that will bring in a change. Of course, at this point at least, these versions are far from being real DAW, more like a “kill-time” type of applications. But who knows what the future holds.

By all means, do the list once again. I agree it is about time, IF there were at least one, two, three… fulfilled FR lately. That would prove making a new list will actually make a difference – sadly, did not prove that in a loooong while now.

I am telling you honestly, I’d love to be prove wrong, but I don’t think actually Frits cares for Podium to really become relevant for a proper DAW use.
Let me explain: Podium was always a “work of love”, a personal project that evolved into a simple but well-designed DAW, with many strong points and fantastic potential, since ’90. Now, that is long before pretty much ALL the major DAW that today are used by tousands… I understand that Frits never intended to sell the concept to become a commercial afair, but that came with a cost. Less money and time to dedicate, less PR, less marketing. Inevitably, Podium is condamned to stay in hobbists area.

Personally I apreciate very much the care for keeping a product “a labour of love” because I know very well the feeling. But right because of that, Podium can not become “grown-up”. It is a “lovely child” with potential, but it takes forever (if at all) to mature.

I will end my negative talking/writing now. I am happy with what Podium is, but much happier if I saw it getting where it could be. I said it before, genuinely I wish all the best to Podium and it’s users and especially to it’s developer, for whom I have great respect. If Podium will become even more succesful, will be a well deserved position. If not (for now) simply because it’s probably not the time yet.

I use both Acoustica and Wavosaur. I like Acoustica visually, but I do prefer Wavosaur. Both work with no issues. Wavosaur is pretty stable, never had a crash with it. I like it more because it really provides acurate information on the wave and the editing is a breeze.

I use a pair of ESI nEar 05. Very happy with them. Reccomended. I cannot comment on M-Aadio monitors though.

Man, that ego!… What would be the world without it?

Alex, you’re what 18-20? It seems to me you’re a bit unexperienced and just a little bit over excited as well. Calm down and please, try to understand what is all about before you jump to conclusions.

Because you’re 1st language is not english, as is not mine, I understand you’re limited in expression and understanding, just as am I. But my first line was legitimate: why on earth do you think people should even write here at all? Because YOU came out with yet another thread about the old stupid Feature Request list? I am so tired about this that I will probably have this as my last post about it. Can’t you see? You can bring up a million feature requests – but in the end Frits will decide when and what he’ll do. I am sorry to say it, he did none of these requests for years. Do you think he (or we) need another tousand posts thread to clearify this? No. He knows what the users want (eventhough some may change) but he chooses to postpone the implementation. Fine.

And no, I do not believe only those who can read music can play music. O record. I do not read music as well. And yes, your rethorical question was offending for the reason I mentioned above.

I do read all the post before posting. In all forums I am. And to make things easier for you, I will type in letters only first three FR I have:

    1. Time Streching
    2. Support for mp3, rex, etc
    3. MIDI Routing

Happy now? I am suuuure that made a huge difference for clearifying thigs! πŸ™„ Now finally the future development of Podium has it right! πŸ˜† (That was an irony to self, don’t jump.)

“My beloved” time-stretching? Are you for real? This is probably the single oldest FR on the forums accompanied by a promise from Frits that will be done. I do not remember, but if you’re curious, do a search on archives. And on this issue, you seem to really miss the point: a simple “non-professional” alghoritm that will allow the user to increase/decrease by 5-7% might sufice for many, me included. Frits said he is on something, but never happened. And why wouldn’t this be ok? Is it better you don’t have it AT ALL? If you have it not good enough for you’re use, don’t use it! Use something more suitable for you – but give me “my” simple TS that will make me happy. Especially since you said you do not care much about this particular FR…

You seems to be so picky about these alghoritms. It’s like we’re talking super professional studios here! Wake-up, you’re using a 50$ piece of software (that could have become indeed a serious player a while ago) that already offers alot for the money. What, you’d be ready to ask for zplane elastique into Podium, which will kill Zynewave or make the cost of Podium double?! If you wanted and could afford it, go and get a full featured DAW. A complete one. Get Reaper.

By all means, ask for the best into Podium, but can we have it this life-time, please?!…

As I said if before many times, I LOVE Podium for what it is and especially for what it could become. I was extremelly excited about using it and I did A FAIR AMOUNT OF WORK with it. For simple jobs, it is perfectly fine, but once you’re deeper into production and arrangements, when you need to combine MIDI with audio and loops, the limitations are more obvious. Some user, and you Alex might be one of them, can do with these limitations and they do great work – check Dan’s productions – but I am not really one of those happy ones.

I hope you will not take any of the remarks too personally. Me, just as you, would like to see a better Podium, but some of us (me) can not forever wait for things to happen.

I do check the posts pretty much everyday on this forum. It’s almost like nicotine – takes a while to het it out of your system. πŸ™‚

I hope that was not a real question, but rather a point you wanted to make and came out in a wrong way…

You did not think that people might have checked the thread only to see if Frits have something to say or not… Lists with FR were done how many times. Yours is just the latest one, in three-four months someone else will start a new one! Maybe people just said it wnough times and they cannot be bothered to write it again, as the last 18 months of development brought very little if any satisfaction from this point of view.

I apreciate the initiative, but keep the expectations real. And do not be surprised to see people just reading. They can write. When they see a reason to do it.

In the meanwhile, there are options of course…

    All the best!

PS: All the best to you all for the new year!

PS2: Oh yes, another point: I believe I also said that any simple time-stretch algo will do. Indeed, because how long ago Frits said he is working on something simple that will use the same algo as the actual zPitch plugin. Which, in most of the cases should do just fine. I mean, is way better to have a simple one that might not work all the time rather than none – right?

Personally, I think people are just too much inlove with these fancy tablets/touch screens/pocket mobility that are ignoring the obvious disadvantages and to a point, uselessness (is that a word?) of such devices, when it’s about making music.

    That is just my opinion.

    Hi guys,

I haven’t been active at all lately, but I do follow the forum, I check every day. I guess it’s a good routine… πŸ˜‰ But I just want to drop few lines here…

Right now I do not use Podium much at all. I downloaded Studio One Free and while obviously very limited, it did open my eyes towards this DAW. I plan getting the Artist version, for two main reasons:

    1. I always felt very inclined toward the minimalistic aproach – hence the interest in Podium in the first place, and I decided that being restricted to only Studio One plug-ins (26) is not such a bad idea. It keeps you focused. And the true is, to me, these plugins actually covers pretty much all the bases. And I like htem, they just feel confortable to me.

    2. Noise/sound making it’s covered between what it is bundled with S1 and my Korg synth.

There are some more reasons, but the bottom line is I can not wait undefinitely for things to happen and if there is a better alternative (good and acceptable for me) I had to just go that route.

I still love Podium, but it is just not there yet.

    Happy music making to all!

    Adi

Congrats, I am a big fan of your work – even though not my exactly type of music, I appreciate your efforts and I believe you are getting a very good use of Podium.
Your work is really a great reccomendation for this app.

    Keep it on!

I need to say that you’re only partially right. People are not quiet because they put up with the lacks in Podium (or any other DAW) but rather resigned. I know I am. πŸ˜‰ Yes, there are options, there is Reaper, fine, but it’s just anoying that Podium is less than what it could and should be.

I visit the forum to read the posts everyday. I know everything you and other forumists are posting. I still learn about Podium, but I have to say I am mostly interested in new posts from Frits, hoping that a new version is released, making possible things like time-stretching, mp3, etc.

While waiting for that, not much to say. Unfortunatelly, even working with Podium is affected. I discovered it is a psychological effect – I tend to see more and more the bad parts or things I cannot do, rather than trying workarounds as before, so Podium stays unused most of the time.

You’re right about the manual though. Maybe with a new updated release there will be completed manual, updated and comprehensive. Why not – it could and it should be like that! πŸ˜‰

…certain features it should have added by now — and ones that the other 99 do offer — are relatively easy upgrades. They really need to happen and reasonably soon.

…Our Feature Request lists have remained largely the same and unfulfilled, and communication with Zynewave has been rather minimal. Apparently, our needs have been shelved or overlooked and meanwhile Frits seems to be spending any DEV time on features no users requested. So, in a sense, I personally have been rather pissed, being doubly burned through this experience, dismayed and rather confused regarding what’s happening here.
