It even has an innovative Start page 🙂
And no, I have nothing to do with the development of this product.
The “Start Page” really caught my eye. While there is a degree of borrowing going on in the DAW world I was surprised at the similarity. What was equally surprising was…
1. The location (and even the order to a degree) of the tools at the top left. Striking resemblance to Podium…
Studio One
2. Have a look at the dragged Looped region (bar 9 -17) …all very similar.
3. The small icons in their file browser as well.
4. Small colour bands on each track.
5. Small thin track meters.
While you can of course find similar features in other hosts the similarity to Podium is striking in certain areas. Large screenshot here.

I will change this behaviour eventually.
Thanks.
It’s a leftover from the old expanded mode behaviour which I haven’t adjusted for compact mode yet.
Yes. I think it was 1.95 or similar.
While drag/drop of effect tracks are not currently possible, there are a couple of alternatives:
If you want to move the fx track within the chain you can use the “Move effect track” submenu.
Menus. I really prefer to avoid menus for a simple drag and drop personally. I think you (with good reason I might add) wanted to avoid a new user potentially messing up their track set up. I think it acts as a guide of sorts. But for anyone who wants to simply drag a copy of an FX track (possible but not the right way) accesssing a menu is Ok for a beginner but for more experienced users really it’s too many steps IMO.
The second method will also work when moving effect tracks outside the chain: Select the effect track. Cut or copy (ctrl+x/c). Select destination track and paste.
Better but not nearly as intuitive as a simple drag and drop. I remember reading about someone on KVR trying Podium and saying something about it allows FX to be dragged but “creates copies e.t.c” I immeadiately thought this really should be revised. It comes across as a bug and certainly does not work as it should. It is confusing and can waste time.
In any case thanks for the response 🙂

looks like this is from the Krystal audio engine developers which was cool for its time
Surprisingly familiar. If Frits secretly developed a DAW for Presonus on the foundations of the current version of Podium I would expect it for the most part to look just like that. Docked central Mixer, Start page, list / browser to the right e.t.c Very similar indeed.
Podium clearly has some hidden fans in the dev. world. 🙂
Green light with Vista x64. No problem so far based on a very brief run.
As stated already it does indeed appear to be a Vista – XP specific problem at least based on initial feedback.
@Zynewave wrote:
Are any of you that have the crash problem running Vista?
Are there any who have successfully installed and run 2.11?
Hi Frits,
That is very strange. 😐 I am just heading down to the VIP area to get 2.11, will report back. I’ll install on Vista x64 (main audio OS for me) and if you want me too I can try Vista x86 (my general use OS).

Don’t waste time on that yet. I’m going to revise the drum map editor in the near future. My thoughts so far are:
Add a new “Create drum kit template” command to the preset menu. Once a drum kit preset exists for a device, a “Drum Kit Preset” submenu will appear below the current “Preset” submenu in the track menu. This will allow assignment of drum kit presets separately from the normal preset assignment. This means it is no longer necessary to convert the normal presets into drum kit presets in order to get to the drum map editor. You can just assign any drum kit template preset to a track to get the drum map editor, without worrying that it will override the patch preset assignment.
Ok thanks. 🙂 Sounds like a good idea. Less steps to completing the process.
The “drum kit preset” submenu will have commands for e.g. extracting drum key names from plugins which support this feature.
This sounds like a way to avoid editing the drum map in the list view to remove excess notes.
If I understand this correctly in RMX for instance could I use this to extract Kick, Snare, Hihat note names from the plugin so only those note names will appear in a drum map?
Having read your comments it seems better for me to wait until the drum map changes arrive before updating the Wiki drum map tutorial, that way it can be 100% up to date with the new features. It would be great to have an updated drum map process in Podium with a fully updated Wiki guide as well, looking forward to it. 😉

I think you misunderstand. Having the option on will result in the same behaviour as previous versions, where plugins are bypassed when overload is detected.
Correct yes! In that case I meant off not on LOL and agree with yours and LP’s suggestion, thanks 🙂

Sadly, no 🙁
I spent a very tiny amount of time on it this past weekend ( though I really should work through your tutorial instead of just reading it 8)
Maybe yes. 😛 I think I will update it after 2.10 is released. Nothing major but new images and better structure (table of contents e.t.c) that might make it easier to read. But it will not reduce the steps that much.
I actually own RMX but I haven’t installed it yet – and I probably won’t ’cause I just ordered Steven Slate Drums LE 3.0 – damn, I’m pretty flakey 😉
Oh….you may want to have a look at 1.7…it is causing a massive stir on KVR.
Of course if you have not installed it maybe you do not really need it. 😐 Maybe sell it and use the money for something else you really need. But If you are not sure please watch these videos first.
I would definitely start with this one. 😉
Maybe I need to start with an existing Drum Map and modify but I can’t seem to find any existing Drum Map templates in the release …
Might be an idea. Frits are you happy to ship Podium with drum map templates? We could all chip in with templates of drum VSTi’s, RMX, BFD, Superior D2, Addictive drums e.t.c if you are happy to allow it. Unless there is some copyright issue, permission from the devs needed?
FWIW RMX 1.7 seems to be working very well in Podium so far. Super Slick.

Beta1 changelog:
Context help for the UI control under the mouse cursor can now be shown in a docked help panel below the inspector panel or the list panel. The help panel can be toggled with the “Docked help” option in the help menu.
Looks very slick. Thanks.
Added “editor mouse snap mode” setting to the Preferences dialog. Options are “grid line closest to cursor” and “start of grid unit under cursor”.
Nice response to recent feedback.
Creating a new plugin parameter track from the inspector parameter panel or the track context menu, will also create a curve sequence on the track. The current plugin parameter value is set as the starting point in the curve sequence.
That should make things even easier.
Added “drum map region properties” shortcut to the drum map right-click menu.
Much needed IMO thanks. Drum map usage can still be simplified. It’s quite a sparse aspect of Podium compared to others IMO. It really does need some further refinement badly.
Added “bypass processing when detecting CPU overload” option to preferences. Disabling this option can result in smoother playback, but with a more sluggish UI when CPU overload occurs
IMO one of *the* biggest single additions to Podium ever. Thankfully it will be off (to take advantage of it) by default.

Now in the new 2.10 beta 1, I can use six gladiator tracks without problems with the option you added (and seven with artifacts). Thx you very much. Oh, and the GUI doesn’t freeze when CPU is overloaded! 🙂
Very interesting feedback. Even more CPU usage out of Podium quite a result 🙂
EDIT: As I said in the 2.10 discussion, since GUI doesn’t freeze, I think you should disable that option by default, so those people with non-optimized pcs haven’t problems with this and think that podium is CPU expensive.
Seems like a very good idea. That might be the best way forward to avoid confusing new users. I had my fair share of issues with it in the past. I wasted a huge amount of time troubleshooting it sadly.
I’ve changed the default of the new option to be off. The automatic bypassing was implemented years ago, on an older Windows version running on a single-CPU PC. Without the automatic bypassing, the PC could freeze up completely, requiring a cold-boot. Today multi-core machines are more common, and on these machines you seldom have problems with GUI freezes.
Something to consider Frits….most demo users IMO will not post their thoughts on a forum and may silently compare CPU usage with their current host. I really think it is better to leave the new option on instead.
Better to have one demo the product on an equal CPU playing field with other hosts than to lose a customer who immediately thinks ” this is a no go…the CPU usage is much higher with Podium than my current host”
While I completely understand your admonitory tone (makes perfect sense), I think LiquidProj3ct’s suggestion to make it the default really will simplify the CPU issue and lower the learning curve considerably for anyone trying the demo.
Just look at how many recent posts on CPU usage there have been from new and even existing users.
Less time fire fighting these issues for you as well. Even if someone posted an issue with glitches I see no problem there as the CPU reading will mirror other hosts. So it is a very unlikely scenario as a user will almost certainly use similar plug ins in a new host (at least initially) so they are unlikely to complain about Podium having glitches compared to anything else…LiquidProj3ct’s excellent feedback seems to back this up.

this also causes the audio to dropdown every few seconds
Hi Daniel. Could the volume dropping every few seconds be from the demo restrictions? Don’t forget that in demo mode this will happen. Just an idea and it could be something different.
Good point bfloyd6969 yes, from the download page regarding the demo…
“Audio output will drop temporarily every 60 seconds.”

–but–
Today I read in this thread that there was a new feature added in 1.75 regarding adding a “Create Drum Kit Template” command to the preset panel menu.
I’ll try it out tonight and see if that helps with my confusion
If not – I’ll be back 😉
peace,
pj
Hi pj 🙂
Were you able to solve the problem?
