Thanks for sharing UA.
Could come in handy. 🙂

I don’t know if it is explained somewhere on the net but it is simple math 😉
Thanks for the additional detail. I thought there might be a Knowledge base Microsoft Article link for it as well (perhaps there is).
I like to read up on stuff like this from time to time. 8) Very few technical apsects in Windows are “simple” IMO or maybe more should be 🙂
@ Frits
Clearly you have much to do elsewhere with Podium but I have also lost data because I could not anticipate a crash coming.
Hopefully some sort of Auto save will arrive sooner rather than later. It’s a strange feature in a way. One can already save as many times as needed but the timeframe between the last save made and the next crash could contain many valuable ideas, tweaks and careful micro changes that could be totally lost. 🙁
I was very frustrated after the last crash I had with RMX. For some reason Podium just cannot keep running if I tweak any RMX controls. Similar to the issue I had before but this time Podium goes down (crashes) Pretty much every time.
It is a problem having to be so focused on saving instead of creating. It is a major distraction. If Podium does the save for me automatically then I can just get on with making music. The way it should be.
Podium of course cannot be held responsible for every crash (plugins can be far from perfect) but autosaving at least helps save what is there *before a potential crash*.
RMX
RMX performed an illegal operation just before the last crash I had.
What exactly does this mean or what series of actions could RMX have done to cause the crash? Thanks.

Let me explain 🙂
If you have a single core it counts from 0 to 100%Dual cores have a max of 50% on each core and Quad has 25% on Each core.
So if you use a program on a dual core setup and you disable Multithreading it only uses one core which maxes out at 50% and the other core works for background tasks outside of the program that is used.
So to sum it up:
Single core = 100%
Dual Core = 50+50 = 100%
Quad Core = 25+25+25+25 = 100%So on a Dual core 50% is 100% on one core.
😀
Interesting. Thanks. How do you know this if I may ask? Any Microsoft links to read? 🙂
@DFusion wrote:
This is because the max is 50% on each core so when you disable multicore it shows about half of what it does with it enabled
So when multicore is enabled it counts the cpu cycles from 0 to 100% and with it is disabled it counts from 0 to 50%
How strange is that? Sounds backward.
Not saying you do not know what you are talking about DFusion 🙂 but I am just trying to wrap my head around this.
Are you saying Windows counts from 0 to 100% for multiple processors and 0-50% for a single processor? ❓
I would have thought it should be 0-100% for single or Multiprocessor sytems.
Or do you mean Podium?

People like Conquistador with big fast machines (hey over there 🙂 )
If you think a Core 2 Quad is fast wait till you see what the new i7’s can do. Amazingly fast. Beats my Quad Q660 easily. 8)
Anyway >ahem< back on topic 🙂

Thx Conquistador I’m gonna read it.
However I can play 7 Gladiator tracks (4 voices chords each) until CPU overload (and I get audio glitches) in Reaper, 6 Gladiator tracks in Orion, and 3 in Podium.
Similar results with Sylenth1.
Strange results. Not sure why that is happenining.
Frits?
Hi guys…
There was an interesting discussion about CPU usage in Podium here. (CPU spikes) It might help.
Why Podium is using less CPU with Mulitprocessing disabled??? Don’t know. Maybe some of your plugins respond better or are coded for single processor usage?
I guess Frits would know what is wrong here or at least know how to troubleshoot it.

I just started using Podium and I was going to post a thread about this but I’ll just tag onto yours. I noticed that Podium is using about twice the cpu as my other DAW’s.
Have a look at this thread (Dual-core Multiprocessing question). Might shed some light on Podiums CPU usage
Nice, thanks. 🙂
@Zynewave wrote:
Do you find the performance inferior compared to other DAW apps? If so, then how did you make the comparison?
Hi adlaius, 🙂
Like Frits I too am wondering what sort of audio engine improvement you want to see. 😐 I think Podiums CPU usage is comparable to other hosts but I have not recently tested that out so the goal posts might have moved a bit. I don’t really stress my CPU anyway (quad). Not that there might not be some way to improve Podiums engine performance (nothing is perfect) 8) but how exactly do you want it improved? Also compared to…? ❓ ❓

I’ve added an “editor mouse snap mode” combobox setting to the Preferences dialog. Options are “closest grid line” and “start of grid unit under cursor”. Coming in release 2.10.
Thanks! 8)
+1
Yes. I think you guys are right. Lets get this done first please Frits. Even if it is not a bug requiring a fix but something that requires a redesign / revision of sorts.
Podium AFAICT right now is bullet proof in other areas.

Heh! 😛 yes I like my quick launches. 🙂
Seriously, looks awesome.
Thanks!
Nice work on the updated images for the website as well.
Just to clarify…Frits did the lovely new Podium home page website images. Not me. 8)
