I like the headphone icon for the outputs. The midi inputs and Audio inputs at a glance look a bit similar. Maybe the midi input can have an actual midi connector icon instead? So…not the plug that goes in (as it is now) but the actual midi socket instead.
As for the others…
Mixer bus: Possibly a 3D arrow or even better the letter S in 3D for send and R in 3D for Return I think that is logical for a tricky item to name.
Plugin effect: I think FX is fine.
Plugin Instrument: I would go for VSTI (you have to make these things obvious).
Hardware Effect…TC have quite a few rack FX units I think using one of these will clearly distinguish it from the VSTFX Icon suggestion above.

Hardware Instrument…I think a synthesizer (not necessarily a Piano) would be a good idea here as it will be clearly distinguishable from the VSTI icon suggestion above for virtual insturments.
I think these suggestions will provide a clear and easy to understand presentation of various icons in Podium.
It’s tricky but I see no problems with these suggestions IMHO.

This is a song I made in Podium. I am a hobby musician (guitarist) and have not the professional gear to make my band’s songs sound the way I want. But with Podium, working on songs is pure fun. 😛
Please let me know what you think of this song.
Not bad at all! “can you heaaaaar meee” 🙂
Thanks for the detailed response. 🙂
Cheers!
Hey!
Finally heard it. I downloaded the Renos track from Garageband. I assume this is the correct one.
Very good! Very moody. It may be an instrumental but it sounds like there is a story in there somewhere 8)
You said you used Jamstix for drums…did you use the virtual drummer for this song? I hear the Jamstix drummer is good but not that good surely 😯 . Spill the beans darcy… how did you get those drums done…? 🙂
Excellent guitar work. While I am no expert, the playing style is very expressive to my ears.
Well done!
Hi darcy,
For some reason I just cannot get any sound. I clicked on the play icon on your link, another small window loaded that appeared to be loading but it just went on and on…what am i doing wrong?
Interesting. 🙂

Thinking about this… If we can get rewire support than all the for those that want FL in Podiom it’s right there. That would be my preference.
Maybe I have misunderstood your statement but it sounded like you were saying…FL can only be used in Podium using rewire.
FL can of course be used as a VSTi in Podium.

So far I’ve implemented a ‘new projects folder’ setting in the preferences dialog. This will default to the ‘Zynewave Podium Projects’ folder that the installer creates, but you can change this.
Sounds like this will be a global Podium project folder for all Podium projects.
Thanks for the option to change the location, as I will very likely have to choose a different location. 8)
When you create a new project it will automatically be saved as a sub-folder in this folder. The sub-folder will be named after the project. You can override the sub-folder creation by using the ‘save as’ menu. Each new sound you create in the project will be saved in a sub-folder structure similar to the folder placement within the project.
Sounds created in arrangements will thus be placed in sub-folders of the project folder, named after the arrangement. Again you can override this by saving the sounds manually with ‘save as’
This looks really good. Thanks for the update Frits. 🙂

I’ll see what I can do. I’m currently working on creating file folders for new projects and sub-folders for arrangements. Deleting orphan sound files are more safe when the project is contained in its own folder.
Thanks for looking into this area of Podium Frits. It will make a huge difference on the project management side of things. 8)
A question for you though…does this include sub folders for audio used in each arrangement or per arrangement within a project?
I ask this because Podiums Project approach works very well and it is very easy to manage an Album within a Podium Project, especially with the new screen in 1.66.
For instance managing an Album as a Project you can simply create as many arrangements within that Project (Album) to represent each song.
However…it appears Podium will save each arrangement within a POD file which is still ok, but the audio used for each arrangement (very likely to be different) is also put into the same folder…not very desirable IMHO.
Effectively I am talking about per arrangement audio folders.
You said “sub folders for arrangements” which I wecome with both hands but are we talking about the exact same thing when I am asking about per arrangement audio folders?
If not…
Are your currrent feature development plans with folders going to in some way or the other, allow separate folders to also be created for audio files within each arrangement?

Please consider making the vertical track header area a bit wider. The ‘hit point’ is far too narrow for something so powerful and useful.
You can do that already. Open the view menu -> profile properties -> tracks -> properties, and adjust the ‘vertical group bar width’ setting.
Thanks for that! 😀 I have now adjusted it to ’15’ from the original ’10’ setting. I think this provides a much clearer track header ‘hit point’ that is not too big either.
As 10 is the default setting (which is surely too narrow) I would suggest 15 as the new default setting. Up to you of course. If the purpose of it is to be found easily then I think setting the defualt size to 15 is not a bad idea.
Changing this default setting will probably be the fastest feature implementation ever for you 😆

Group FX track > original track
Wrapping a track with the right click menu creates this…
Group FX track

It’s really the same thing but the view is slightly modified. If you select the Group Fx track and hit
h you can toggle between the two views. I use both views depending on what I’m doing.
Thanks for the tip darcy.
I very rarely use keyboard shortcuts. I prefer to right click and pick an option on screen or click a button. Shortcuts can be very useful but it’s not usually my first choice.
It is strange in a way that the quickest and easiest way to add FX or instruments in Podium IMHO, does not at least have a either a tooltip or info line that pops up when the mouse cursor is over the track header area in the actual track not just the Device Mapping Panel. This would have saved me so much time.
Please consider adding this small but clearly important addition to Podium Frits. Thanks 8)
This is a recurring question, so I figured it would be worthwhile spending a few hours putting together a tutorial on the hierarchic track tree:
http://www.zynewave.com/wiki/doku.php?id=tutorials:tracks:index
It seems even seasoned Podium users could pick up a few hints here Wink
Thanks for taking the time to put the detailed write up together.
Sometimes it’s the little things that cause the most problems. I still think a tool tip should be added to the actual track header area.
You might also consider adding a link to the WIKI and a separate link to this particular turtorial (considering the recent problems) to this Tutorial thread in the support forum…
