Are there any other sides to the disk streaming that you are going to optimize?
Plenty. This update of the wave file format support does not really optimize speed, but it is required for future optimizations.
Glad to read that disk streaming optimizations are top of the pile for now. It wil be great if I can finally rely on Podium for reliable playback again without dropouts. Thanks for looking into this. Definitely looking forward to 1.63.
Good work. I may now revisit Jamstix in Podium thanks. 8)

Justin and Frits have certainly opposed developpment methods.
I think that Frits is a perfectionnist, who takes all the time that is needed for every feature he adds to be perfectly in place with the others and is fully tested before integrated.
The result is a regular but rather slow progressing, which will give a wonderfull tool for people who can wait and who can accept to do things sometimes with more pain, because they can be confident in the long term.
I must say that for me it is worth the effort !
Yes it is. The tortoise may be slower than the hare but he sees more of the road on his way to completing his latest new feature. 😆
Having said that I know very little of Justin but he appears to have a pretty good record for fixing bugs. But…he does have a second developer working with him…of course Frits works strictly solo.
I wonder if Frits had a second coder wether he could match Reapers blistering development pace. In any case thankfully I am in no mad rush for new features anyway, just reliability and development consistency.
It’s great to see developers like Frits, Justin, Holger (Phrazor) and Jorgen (EXT) step out and try to offer something different.
I think we all stand to benefit from their continued development.
Of course we can have our host cake and eat it as phrazor and EXT can all be plugged into Podium and I think Justin’s clever Rea Route in Reaper allows for audio to be ferried between Reaper and *any* host if I am not mistaken. So one does not even need to choose between them. 😉
Nice update Frits. 😉

The CPU issues of JS in Podium are solved in the latest Jamstix beta.
Thanks for the update! I guess the reputation you guys have for fixing bugs remains intact. 😉

Ok, five minutes might be a bit low but you know what I mean 🙂
If the amazing response to Reaper is anything to go by, then you are not far off. It appears ease of use, simplicity and an impressive feature set are drawing in the crowds for Reaper over at KVR.
Podium is defintely not complex but could be easier to get into. Reaper came from absolutely nowhere almost.
I downloaded the latest version of Reaper but have not tried it out yet. Amazingly it’s still free, although that will change once it reaches 1.0 in about 2 – 4 weeks, if not sooner.
I think Frits has still probably the best balance between the speed of development and the ability to maintain new and existing features properly, keeping Podium pretty much bug free.
The big new playground for developers seems to be how not what.
How to make their product work more efficiently, quicker, easier especially for new users and potential customers.
As good as the z plugs are (very), freebies are all over KVR, FX and synths. So what do people want now? What is drawing the crowds?
You said 5 minutes. You are not far off. That is why Tracktion took off like a rocket, way back, and why a superb host like Podium has not…yet anyway.
I tried and failed with Podium and gave up for months after trying to get any sound out of Podium some time ago. Most people would not bother trying again. That simple.
An older Podium thread on KVR had many determined efforts to get something out of the demo described in detail by KVR members but few got as far as we have. Sad really.
I read in Sound on Sound magazine today in their review of NI’s Kore that NI realised that the world does not need another synth but a way to creatively manage and use the synths and plugs they already have.
The are 12 or 13 products in Komplete 3, KORE ties everything together, at a price for sure but a great idea. How to simplify a product, not what to add to it. I think Frits is definitely on the right track and has certainly consistently noted and implemented user requests.
EXT2 is great example of the new wave of simplifying existing workflows and ideas. Jorgen (EXT’s developer) said one of the areas for improvement in EXT2 was ease of use. That seems to be the way host development is spinning at the moment.
Ableton’s Live has had built in tutorials for years, built right into the arrange page. You just cannot get lost. This has been a massive help to new users.
The wiki should really help things here.
He he…a bit long I know, I know… 😆

I am using Jamstix Beta 1833 and Podium v1.60.
If I try to do an offline render of the jamstix track the system will feeze at the completion of the render. The only way to clear the problem is to restart the system.
We’ll wait for a statement by Zynewave on this one before looking any further as rendering with Jamstix works fine in other hosts.
Hmmm, I was kind of hoping Jamstix issues had been cleared up. It’s a great VSTi to use in Podium. I tried the demo with Jamstix triggering Stylus RMX, quite an experience 8)
I suppose I could plug Jamstix into Phrazor hosted in Podium. A fix if possible would be better though.
It seems strange that a fix would elude two of the most responsive developers I have known.
I had CPU spikes in Podium last time I used Jamstix in P.
Edit:…having said that I used Jamstix months ago in Podium, I might dabble with the latest version of Jamstix. 😉

Good idea. I’ve added “Save states of track inspector, mixer and embedded editor in each arrangement.” to the future list. It probably would be best to have this as an option in the preferences. I can see situations where I would prefer the layout of the editor to stay constant, independent of the arrangement.
Looking forward to that. 😉

When the Freeze button is unpressed, the hidden file is destroyed and the track can be edited etc.
Is this what you mean ?yep…this would be an addition..not a replacement for the very good bounce podium system….
Another vote for adding a Freeze feature in addition to the already existing bounce features.
@Podianer wrote:
That is possible already! At least with my version of Podium.. 😛 (press F5 on your plugin track;
Well well…! Right you are it does dock. I have many projects that would have been finished ages ago if not for the playback bug, so I simply have not ventured that far into this particular area of Podium.
The playback bug has been an annoyance. Great starting projects in Podium, but can’t playback the finished product.
I tend to use the standard GUI available with any given plug. It can be better to see and understand how exactly one should best use an EQ or Compressor.
Having said that, I think the way the parameters are made available (docked) 8) is even better than Sonar’s implementation which only shows four parameters at any given time.
This feature like many sadly in Podium is a hidden gem. If Frits can get playback functioning properly then I can start finishing those projects. They have been on the back burner since 1.48. 🙄
The parameters in Podiums Generic GUI will not update if the track is muted and a preset is changed on a selected track. This confused me initially but unmuting the track allowed Podium to update the generic GUI with any preset changes. Smooth. 😉
@Podianer wrote:
The optional generic editor is possible in the current release. You can turn it on when you go to the properties of a plugin mapping. What I meant was, that it would be nice to have both, the generic one in the inspector and the native one when pressing “e”.
Sorry I misunderstood you then. 😉
Yes, while the generic editor is possible it cannot be docked like it is by default in Sonar or Project 5 which would be nice. At the moment its another floating window which can be avoided by allowing the generic editor to be docked into the Track inspector.
I think I need to start a new thread as the ideas I have are similar to yours but still different. This thread has actually given me some more ideas for Podium.
I need to think it through and list them properly 😆
@Podianer wrote:
It would be very nice if we could use both, the generic editor inside the track inspector (plugins like the Classic Edition do not really need the GUI to be opened), and the native GUI when pressing “e”.
It is a nice way to edit in the track inspector. And faster than opening thousands of windows..
Yes, good idea. It would be nice to have some sort of option to do away with using a plug in’s GUI. At least something optional.
Logic has a system that allows you to open one instance of a GUI and then replace it with any active or selected plug, be that an instrumetnt or effect. It means you never have more than one GUI open at any time.
But your suggestion is better still. If any plug could be represented in the Track inpsector, and there was some way to pick any 5 key parameters that would be great.
Cakewalk have implemented such features into Project 5 and Sonar 5. You simple choose which paramemters you want to see..any 4 I think.
So a compressor can have 4 assignable sliders…one for ratio, release e.t.c So as Podium already shows which parameters can be automated for a given plug, maybe Frits can make the already available parameters available as 4 or 5 assignable sliders in the Track inpsector.
He he. I may have drifted off slightly from your original idea but…hey 🙂

would be very good to have such a diagram for Podium
Maybe less so for existing users but surely for new users I would have thought. A great candidate for a Wiki entry. The things that are simple for us may be baffling initially for new users.
Some sort of signal flow illustration can only help even though looking at Podiums arrange page and mixer do give a clear inidication as to the signal flow within Podium. I guess it’s making sure new users have the easiest ride possible. 😉
Woo hoo! It looks really good. Can I have a user account Frits?
quite time consuming to translate this huge guide.. the project part is nearly complete for germans..
Great effort Podianer! Translating everything must have taken ages. Well done. Similar support for different languages (French and German) popped up on the Tracktion forum during it’s early development years ago. Every little bit helps. 8)
Looks interesting, Serendipity.
While I have not tried it just yet, if you already have success using it you may want to add it to the Zynwave Wiki. Not sure what category it would fall under though as it is not part of Podium, but it should be of interest to users who love to get their colour scheme just right…er..like me 8)
