Wow! I guess that might be one of the first entries in the wiki then. 😉
I hope so. I am currently experimenting with a wiki installation. Once I feel comfortable with it, I’ll give access to all registered Podium users so they can edit the contents.
Good, it should be a great help to new and existing users.

It seems to me that what they refer to as ripple editing is how Podiums segment selection/editing is working. Deleting a segment will remove anything inside the segment and move following events back to close the gap. Using the ‘insert blank’ edit menu on a segment selection will move events forward to make room for the empty segment.
Correct! Hee hee , I generally like to wash down humble pie with a cool drink when available. 😆
Also it only takes a few clicks. The terminology is different in Podium hence the oversight. It works flawlessly here in Podium by the way, very quick and easy. 🙂
I use Vegas + DVD for video editing…Vegas has post ripple editing features for instance that involve rippling markers and envelopes as well as events.
Well Podium (from what I can see here) does this as well.
There was so much interest in this one feature in partcular in Reaper in a 30+ page thread at KVR you would have thought Reaper was the only application that had it!
It appears Podium has had this for a very long time. Maybe that wiki needs to happen sooner rather than later. 🙁
I would however not want the wiki to distract you from other important aspects of Podium. Maybe once you have chosen a wiki, Podium users could somehow help populate it. Don’t know how, but it may be necessary to avoid you getting pulled away from P’s development. Just a suggestion of course. 😉
Welcome. This forum is a friendly place with plenty of useful information. 😉

Sync button works now, and Holger is going to give us the next preview, which has multiple outs! 😆
Thanks for the update on that. Now I can finally use multi output instruments like Direct Wave or RMX in Phrazor while it’s plugged into Podium. 🙂
It’s great to be able to plug a whole new environment (Phrazor) into Podium. Especially as Podium is so stable. This looks like a very good combination indeed. 8)

I intend to change this so that streaming of muted audio tracks is disabled if they are muted by a parent bounce track. That way bounce tracks will also reduce disk-streaming as well as CPU usage.
Yes thanks for the explanation Frits. It’s always good to know a little bit more about the more technical aspects of Podium.
I guess muted tracks should not really require any cpu resources once muted ideally (if possible), as they are effectively not needed anyway (as long as they are in a muted state), especially since they will not be heard.
If I am not mistaken Podium will use less CPU when tracks are muted even now, however more optimizations are very welcome for sure.
Either way I will take just about any solution for audio drop outs in Podium… looking forward to the optimizations. 😉
Personnaly I prefer the three states button solution…
Yes, agreed acousmod.
Frits, if you need more info…here is a simple graphical explanation of basic ripple editing….

Thanks Frits. Consistent and reliable playback in a host is just too important to not have. It’s probably not even something any user would look out for as it’s simply expected.
Probably the no.1 feature of any host (not just Podium) is simply to playback audio and midi. As midi data is likely going to be bounced to audio at some point in a project, consistent audio playback becomes critical.
I know you are aware of this anyway of course 😉 , and judging by the speed of past bug fixes this would long since have been adressed as have other bugs if it was not because of the development tools which I fully understand.
Thanks for letting us know when you will look into this. At least you can reproduce it.
Cheers. 🙂
PmWiki seems to have a nice combination of ease of use and key functionality.
TWiki seems to be the most feature rich of them all, I guess it’s better for future proofing.
DokuWiki seems to be the simplest.
As for an existing example of a wiki try this…

No idea what software was used but it’s a very good effort. 🙂
EDIT:Just seen this one…maybe the best of the bunch. You may want to consider this as well.
I have seen Phrazor but not really used it yet. Looks interesting. I can think of many uses for this in Podium. 8)

Now it’s me with big drop outs. I mainly have audio tracks recorded from my band. All my Podium files are stored on an external USB harddrive with 7200 rpm. I have 2 GB of RAM. That shouldn’t be the problem then..
I think SuperCrunchy (thread starter) had around 512mb of ram I have around 4GB, so your 2GB of Ram I would have thought, should have no bearing on this issue. Just guessing but it would be strange if it did.
The issues I am still having are similar if not identical to yours.
Mainly audio tracks that will drop out when playback is started. Sometimes playing the whole project through once returns things back to normal, but that works as many times as it doesn’t here.
It’s the only problem I have with Podium.
I remember a problem I kept having with Podium hanging when scanning my VST’s, not a problem any more .
The unpredictability of the audio dropouts in Podium makes it very tricky to use it as reliability goes out the window.
Playback must be 100% reliable in any host or a huge amount of time and effort is wasted if one cannot guarantee a project will playback properly.
Hopefully Frits can do something about it sooner rather than later.
Instrument play back (triggered by midi) seems fine but importing audio files or bouncing an existing audio file seems to cause audio drop outs here.
I am pretty sure it is not 100% plug in related as I have tested Podium out thoroughly with a variety of audio only projects with no FX or instruments and still had dropouts.
Frits said he needed or preferred to have better development tools available ideally before looking at it.
Hopefully some other sort of solution can be offered soon.

Maybe it’s too early?
Interesting…I suppose either way maybe the guys at SWA could be interested. As you have already got the ball rolling with the existing Podium videos they may be interested in taking the time to produce a detailed video.
They recently announced a very detailed video for Tracktion. It does look quite professional.

I imagine a similar one for Podium would be of great help to new users and potential customers surely. Effectively an extension of the already very useful existing Podium videos.

Well, the examples I gave would be easier to mix and apply specific effects to the specific channels wouldn’t you say?
He he… I would. One of the examples you gave is exactly the way I have Stylus RMX set up in my default template. 😉
Oh yes and I agree, I think Podium would benefit from an FAQ.

Yes… but I hope after having completed some of the more awaited basic features of Podium like fades, audio events volume, link of automation sequences or grouping ! 😉
😆 Too true Acousmod, I almost forgot about those! I would certainly wait for another plug if necessary if it meant we would get clip fades e.t.c.
There is also a long standing “pre scheduling” issue that causes audio dropouts that will hopefully be addressed at some point. That is definitely my no.1 priority. Easily.
I guess as much as I want the compressor there are indeed more pressing issues to address. At least Frits is fully aware of them and when he can, I think he will certainly address all of these issues. 😉
Another favourite aspect of Podium for me is the wonderfully tiny footprint on your harddrive. Just under 6mb! Almost nothing considering what is packed into it. 😉 Also I don’t think any information is stored in the windows registry. Sweet. 🙂
Stability, workflow, plug ins (that reverb!), support, preset management e.t.c blah blah you get the picture. 🙂
After seeing Frits work with the first two zplugs a zCompressor would be absolutely great. 8)
Just tried this baby out. WOW! What a reverb…!
I think the surprisingly high quality of this plug will surprise many new users. Very nice work here Frits. A very high quality reverb, well worth the time and effort spent on it. 8)
