I would also love to see the discussed popup help changes.

It’d be great if more people want to contribute to the Podium guide.
I’ve added a page with style conventions: Podium guide conventions.

I think the screenshots are the most important thing to update. While the text may not be 100% complete, the Wiki version of it should be a reasonably accurate description of the GUI up to and including version 2.05.

    Hi Mike,

I’d also like to see more shortcut keys for zooming and scrolling.

I think your 4th request has already been implemented and there are a few useful key/mouse combinations for zooming. These are mentioned towards the end of the zooming section of the Podium Guide:

Version 2.07 also adds a few improvements in this area, though these haven’t been included in the guide yet.

    Cheers,

Thanks H-Man! I too would have missed this huge library if it hadn’t been for your post. I’m new to this ePointz system and in all the excitement I forgot to refer to you. Sorry about that.

I haven’t used SampleTank a lot before and I must say browsing all these new sounds using the mouse is putting a real strain on my hand. Anyone know of any keyboard shortcuts? Or is there a nifty way to use the pitch or modulation wheels (don’t seem to have any fancy MIDI controllers on my keyboard)?

    Thanks,
    jan-erik

    Hi,

I’d also love to see an option for MIDI loop-recording to create a new clip on subsequent passes.

As far as the limitation on 8 passes, this is just the default value. From the guide:
“To change the track limit, choose Preferences… on the Setup menu, then choose the Audio tab of the Preferences dialog. The Track limit in loop-recording group setting determines the maximum number of child tracks that will be created in each group track that is used for loop-recording. Setting this limit to 1 is the same as disabling loop-recording. If the maximum number of tracks in a group is reached, and record and loop mode are still activated, the audio input will overwrite any previously recorded audio on the last track created.”

It took a bit longer to get the picture updated than I planned, but now it’s done. Made a few changes to the list in the guide as well.

    1. No fade or volume adjustment on Bounce tracks. Why not? It’s a workflow issue – often a track will require a small edit but I have to stop the flow, just to create yet another track, rename it etc to drag eveything onto it so I can apply a fade. Maybe I’m missing something, but wouldn’t it be more straight forward to make such minor edits on the Bounce track?

Just a little quote from the Podium Guide (Fade-In/Out & Crossfades section) about this. (I know it won’t speed up your work, but I think this is the reasoning behind the limited bounce track editing.)

“It is not possible to use fades on sound events on bounce tracks. This is because the primary purpose of a bounce track is to be able to create an exact rendering of the child tracks and then be able to switch back to the child tracks to make modifications and redo the render. If it was possible to apply fades (or gain changes) to bounce track events, it would mean that playback of the bounce track would not be identical to the unbounced playback. If you want to use a rendered sound event as a regular clip, you can move it to a regular audio track.”

For those of you who like shortcut keys: I’ve updated the list in the Podium guide. I hope to update the Reference picture in the wiki as well in the not too distant future.

Is the reference a part of the wiki?

It’s a part of the wiki (Miscellaneous Files), but not of the Podium guide. Keyboard Shortcut Reference

Both the shortcut list in the guide and my reference could probably use some updating. I’ll see what I can do the next few days (can’t allow Frits to use his valuable time on things like this 😉 )

    Cheers,
Piltdown Man (for whom the shortest route from inspiration to masterpiece is always via the keyboard rather than the mouse 😉 )
