Of course, I don’t expect Frits to make any bold statements regarding this

Like: I’m going to rewrite the engine in C# and .net and start a new beta cycle? 😆

Thankfully I’m still happy with the core functionality of Podium, and that’s why there have been no “major” revisions. I’ll probably try to introduce a nice feature in V2.00 so that it at least will have a higher profile than the 1.99 release 😉

Any suggestions for the V2 killer feature?

When adjusting the Transient Sensitivity and Minimum Crossfade time dials in realtime (with the Preview option ticked) Podium will skip over parts of a clip

I am aware of this problem. I’ll try to improve the playback response for the next release.

I did so, but it still doesn’t work.. I can click on the mix dial, but there is no change in the value..

Then you are still using the old zPitch version. Check that the zPitch.dll is dated 14-03.

however, after the scan completes, i get an error message saying:

‘a plugin has performed an illegal action’

Does the message appear after the scan dialog is closed? Normally it is the last plugin written in the dialog that is the culprit.

Would the new Sync point feature be accessible in realtime?

It is sort of already calculated realtime in the beat slicing, as it is the point where the slice fade-in ends. The sync point will be indicated as a vertical bar with a handle for dragging it, similar to the drag handles of fade-in/out.

But the mix dial of zPitch does not work here. Am I doing something wrong?

I just checked, and the mix dial works in the zPitch included with the release. Maybe you copied the old zPitch to another location and is still using that? You’ll have to reimport the plugin to get the extra mix parameter.

I’m still working on the improvements to the zPitch algorithm, so the version included in this release does not have the changes I’ve described in the zPitch preview topic.

I’m interested in hearing your opinion of the new beat slicing feature. The next development step I’m considering is adding a “Sync point” property to sequence and sound events. The sync point would be used to align the events when quantizing and snapping to grid lines. The beat slicing will then set the sync point at the transient of the slices (i.e. right after the fade-in). This makes it possible to apply quantization properly. Quantizing currently align the events at the start of the fade-in. After implementing sync point, the next logical step would be to implement an extended quantize dialog with customizable swing, approximation strength etc.

    Hi,

I have the ‘L’ button ‘on’ and have the green bars set – but no looping occurs?

If you mean the ‘L’ button next to the timeline, that one sets the mouse edit mode of the timeline. Use poup-help or right-click the timeline to see the corresponding menus. The bottom transport toolbar has the Loop enable button (key shortcut: L). When loop is enabled the editor background will highlight the loop range.

wouldn’t it be a time saver and very convienient addition to allow a scroll wheel mouse to expand/contract (horizontaly) the editors by placing it over a timebar/line – seems like a missed opportunity, and a time saver.

I’ll consider it. You can hold ctrl+alt and use the mouse-wheel to zoom horizontally with the mouse anywhere in the editor. Holding shift will scroll horizontally.

I don’t plan to work on the sound editor in this round of audio feature updates. And after the time-stretch feature there are a couple of MIDI related features waiting.

What the heck is a beat slicer and why would I ever want one?

Beat slicing is mostly for people who like to use libraries of prepared drumloops. Beat slicing a drumloop does not by itself change the sound, but once you have sliced the individual beats you can quantize or manually move the beats around to change the timing of the loop. This has no ugly artifacts compared to time-stretching which slightly warps the sound. Having the beats split up also allows you to e.g. move kick, snare drum, hihats etc. to separate tracks with individual effects processing.
