Also, for a more future version, the possibility to make a vertical selection in the sound, that is to say select only one or several channels will be great

You can toggle the selection of each channel by clicking the channel header.

the vertical zoom in the editor zooms the amplitude of the wave. It would be fine to have the option to zoom in the channels like for the tracks in the Arrangement. I suppose that it would be only usefull with multichannel waves…

You can zoom in on an individual channel by using the zoom-y/zoom-xy tools and click-dragging in the y direction in the channel header.

The ‘Save Selection As’ command is a good idea. You have previously requested a command for exporting channels in multiple mono files. Maybe the ‘save selection as’ should create mono files, or would it be better to have an additional ‘save selection as mono files’ command?

Thanks for posting this. It’s always interesting to see how other people are using Podium. The status bar is currently used to show the progress indicator for saving wave files, and to show menu hints. I’ve been thinking about putting in an option to show those menu hints in the top of the browser window, to the left of the help button. That way the statusbar can be discarded.

I’ll also think about a way to embed an editor window into the main browser window.

So do you think that Podium would be able to support too the 4GB wave files without having to program the support for other formats like Broadcast Wave or RF64 ?

Yes. That would be step 1. It is on the plan.

    Hi Rony,

I have experienced this once myself. I found that it was caused by an earlier beta version of the KarmaFX Synth plugin. When using the import plugin procedure in the wizard, then this plugin would somehow clear all Podium menus. Saving the project and restarting Podium may appear to work, since this will not load the plugin. If I then later on loaded the plugin by placing it on a track, the Podium menus would become blank again.

The hierarchic engine is flexible and powerful, but there are a few things you need to know about the way it works, before you can make use of it. It sounds like you’re trying to create a new arrangement from scratch. Try following the instructions in the getting started section in the guide to get a feel for the hierarchic flow.

    Hi Steve,

Drag & drop of plugins onto tracks is possible, if that is the way you prefer to work. The lists in the track inspector allows you to drag from here, but they also allow you to assign plugins directly to the focus track just by double clicking or pressing enter.

Podium is using hierarchic models for many things, including the MIDI and audio flow in the mixer. The ‘left to right’ signal flow you find in Tracktion does not apply well to Podiums hierarchic mixer routing.

To be ‘relative to project path’ the audio file must be in the same folder or a sub-folder as where the project file is saved. Perhaps the problem you encountered is if you have created a new project and not yet saved it to disk before importing the sound files?

The automated search for broken sound file links is on the plan.

In the header of all wav files is a 32 bit value that tells the bytesize of the file. This number cannot be larger than 4GB. Bidule may support wave files larger than 2GB, but smaller than 4GB. The RF64 format is an extension of the wav format, where a 64 bit value is used to tell the bytesize of the file. The actual type of the wave file or the number of channels is unrelated to this problem.

After doing some tests and searching the internet:

The 2GB limit is a restriction in the Microsoft routines I am using for writing chunks in Wave files. The routines simply will not write or read anything beyond 2GB. The wave file format theoretically allows file sizes up to 4GB, but to support this it appears I will have to write my own file routines for handling chunks in wave files. I found a discussion about this limit, which appears to be a problem in many applications:

    http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=32422

From searching the internet, I found a couple of solutions to the 4GB file limit. One is the ‘Broadcast Wave Format’ which has a ‘link’ chunk that can associate several wave files into one continuous file. Another solution is the ‘RF64’ format, which is a modified wave file format, that can save >4GB in one file. The RF64 format can however only be read by applications that support it. I believe I read that e.g. Nuendo is supporting this format.

The conclusion is that there is some work involved in supporting this, so for now I’ll put it on the plan.

When you copy an object in the browser, any child objects are also included in the copy. For arrangements that means all sound objects that are created under the arrangement. When pasting a copy of the arrangement into the project, Podium will paste the sound objects too and remap the sequence/audio events to the new sound objects, so you get a complete duplicate of your arrangement. If you do not want the sound objects copied, you can use the list window to do the copy. Just unfold the arrangement object, and choose copy for the arrangement. When copying an unfolded object, the child objects are not included in the copy. When pasting the arrangement, the events will then still refer to the sound objects in the original arrangement.

Ok, I answered too quickly. I got your revised project file now.

The problem with the last track where you have the level parameter assigned, is that the track is audio enabled. That means the level automation adjusts the gain on the level track itself (and any tracks that would have been below the level track), and the level on the parent track is not affected. Just remove the ‘enable audio mixing’ option for the level automation track.

Got your project. I could not find any automation tracks in your ‘template’ arrangement. Here’s a procedure to set up a level automation track:

Select the track you want to automate, e.g. the ‘Drums’ group track. Open the ‘Param’ panel in the inspector. Click the ‘Mixer’ button. Double-click the ‘Level’ parameter. You should now have a new track with the level parameter assigned, and a strip in the mixer with a slider. Moving the slider will create a curve sequence on the track. You can also use the pencil tool to create curve sequences on the track.

can u tell me when the next update will be available and how it’s going on with the manual?

The next update will only contain minor improvements/fixes and it will be released within a week. The last couple of weeks I have been doing some research that will be put to use in a later release. So the manual has been on hold for a while. I’ll get back to it soon.
