Seems like a very clever idea. I am equally interested in Frits response. 🙂

Back to normal.
The note shortcut buttons could have a function in selection mode too.
They could change the value for selected notes.
Ooohh yes please. 8)

In no way, form or fashion am I trying to derail this discussion but could someone tell me how or why they use the Event View? I always thought of it as a nice thing but never found a use for it.
I think Pigini and H- Man pretty much said what I think about it. Editable Event view data. Can be very useful. It is currently tucked away. Needs to be brought along side the PR for a much easier workflow. Many trying the Podium demo may not even know it has an Event view!

My thought was to be able to access and edit this info from the note as displayed on the Piano Roll as like a tool tip that you can make changes through, like the current mixer Meter & Fader routings display.
That tool tip idea as an addition to allowing the Event view to be seen along side the PR would be a very nice option to have…nice idea.
Any feedback on the Piano Roll Keyboard responding to an attached controller? Also, step recording from midi controller keyboard?
For some reason I thought step recording from a Midi controller keyboard was already possible.

One reason it’s not as busy as some other places is that the software works. By that I mean its not buggy. Its my belief that the developer, Frits, takes a lot of pride in his work and strives to keep things stable.
True. His work in keeping things stable and reliable (bug fixing) keeps support post counts at a very low level indeed. So he has more time to dev new features instead at a pace he is comfortable with and that he can sustain.
Things do pick up a bit when new enhancements are coming down the pike. And for the most part folks are pretty helpful and respectful of each other which, unfortunately, is not found often enough on web forums.
Also true 🙂

Putting a Piano roll specific FR list together of my own. 🙂
No doubt 😆
Indeed… 😛
My list for the Piano rolll for now…
1. Note names…with a user configurable colour option for the text.
2. Horizontal highlight…with a user configurable colour which could include an option to choose the selected tracks colour.
3. Much better use of the Event view…
The is a big space to the left of the Piano roll view…why not fill it up with the Event view which clearly will have info directly related to the Piano roll?
Large empty space…
I think this is much better…
4. New Midi Preview browser window
I initially thought this would be better in the List view but it could work just as well in the PR.
Since the Piano roll already knows which track is selected why not add a Midi import command to the Piano roll File menu? (Midi Export is already there) so surely Midi Import should follow. The midi file gets imported and an additional preview function in a new browser would play the midi file through whichever synth the PRV has focus on.
This could work for drums as well. Simply select your synth track in the Piano roll, select the Import Midi command and browse your hard drive for midi files. Press a preview button (in the new browser) to hear the midi file playing through your drum VSTi. If you are happy with what you hear click ok to import that midi file into Podium.
The volume of the track with the synth on it, could determine the volume of the preview.
That is all for now…heh 🙂
Hi ZChris,
Welcome. 8)

I don’t understand why this forum is not a lot busier. Maybe you could make a more expensive version with a small plugin bundle to tempt more customers?
I think the forum is definitely more active than it used to be. But yes even more activity would be very welcome. Podium is one of the webs best kept secrets.
The real problem is…$$$. For marketing that is.
Once there are enough Podium copies sold that make it financially realistic for Frits to spend cash on advertising I have no doubt he will. He is not there yet though AFAICT. So for now other options must be looked at.
What about the Reaper effect / buzz?
Reaper AFAICT still has not had a full page ad or even a banner ad on any site yet, but is *very* popular. This is mainly due to a huge sustained post surge on Reaper topics from some Reaper users way back which caused probably as much harm as good back then on KVR.
I call that period the “Reaper KVR wars” 😯
Not the way Frits and any of us here want to promote Podium so outside of a few topics on KVR and regular Product update announcements there, that is pretty much all the marketing it has had.
In addition a Computer Music Mag Podium 1.77 promo I think went well not too long ago.
One thing the Reaper guys got spot on was getting Reaper reviews in CMM mag (2 full reviews), and Sound on Sound reviews (at least 2 reviews). This was a master stroke as it really placed Reaper infront of the readership they need (some of who may never go to KVR).
Podium…no reviews yet.
There should have been a submission to a mag or two for review by now IMO. But I think Frits wants to wait (more features added e.t.c) but maybe he feels Podium is ready now. I definitely think it is ready for a review and has been since Rewire was added IMO.
Podium badly needs the exposure reviews have brought and continue to bring other products.
In any case I have an idea for 2009 that should bring in a few hundred or so new users hopefully. I should post later today or later this week about it in the VIP forum where many such discussions take place. 8)

You can also slave ReWire FLStudio into Podium too Very Happy, gotta juggle the latency and use Realtime-record to bounce but it’s generally pretty good.
Ben
..or he can run it as a VSTi…choices, choices. 🙂
@Zynewave wrote:
I think you can just as easily use bounce on the main track in the two-track setup. The bounce waveform may be drawn on top of the audio sources on the track, but I don’t see that as a problem.
Yes…of course bounce can be enabled on any track, I thought you would bring that up 😛 , however I personally prefer to work with a separate output track, but I agree having the Bounce waveform drawn “on top” is not a problem at all. Just a different way of presenting the audio waveform. If anything it gives Podium users more options and a different workflow.
You can of course also unhide the bounce track (in a two track set up) but that brings us back to three visible tracks 😛 😛 :clown: While it is actually true (you know this only too well) I am just bringing that up for a laugh. 🙂
The two or three track sidechain options do actually showcase Podiums flexibility with sidechaining very well indeed, which is an interesting offshoot from this thread. I would dare say Podium may very well offer the most flexible sidechain options in most if not *any* host.
I think Compressives Martin “Caco” Eastwood said something similar when posting a tutorial for his plug covering an older version of Podium some time ago. 😉

Got it usb-sticked. No probs.
Well done. 🙂
But as mentioned in that other thread, it creates its podium.ini on c: in the folder “userappdatazynewavepodium” (only if it does not find one there already). A comp with minimum user rights would probably not like that.
Maybe yes could pose a problem for some.
All the other pathes (like file cache) can be changed from within podium. There is some other stuff also, the installer puts into the my documents folder of the system(projects and templates). They can be copied to the stick and the pathes changed accordingly. All very easy to do, I guess it would be a peace of cake, having the installer putting it all in the podium folder initially, or getting rid of the installer completely.
Based on what you have said…some way to tidy up the process, or have less copying to do would be nice. I need to try it myself at some point.
Is there actually a way of using relative pathes for the podium.exe?
(Its because, when using the stick on different computers, the absolute pathes might have to be changed again, because of the changing drive letter.)
Good question about relative paths, dont know but Frits surely would.
