if you record a guitar freeform, can you maintain proper time?
i am curious what you are doing this for?
Hi sam, surely not always 🙂 . A real good guitarplayer from the Revalver- and other forums might though, and he is in need of this feature too. It is just a way of being able to noodle with the guitar for me and not caring about the formerly setup timesignature. I felt somewhat restricted earlier when setting up songs where I had, say, my drums and a few pad or synths sounds and the guitar had to “obey” to all that.
I can think of switching from Idea X to Y with the guitar, and maybe, just in case I’d like my playing I would like to easily match the playing of, eg Jamstix, to my guitar-tempo-changes.
Not really sure if I explain it well…lately I’ve been interested in uncommon timesignatures as well, there is an old thread at KVR about this (maybe in the theory-forum, have to check) and additionally I started listening to funny 7/8 or 13/16 dances or whatever. I don’t play that kind of music, but some dances you can listen to at http://www.dunav.org are with such for many of us uncommon rhythms, and I thought I’d learn to do that. Metal-freaks told me a lot about that too.
There seems a way to do those tempo changes like your guitar-noodling or singing “tells you” (errm…) in Reaper now as I read in their forum.
Just read this. Well, many people agree that DX-plugins are not longer used much. My first purchase was a horribly expensive Timeworks reverbX plugin, DX-only, and I still love it (but 249 Euro…i had no clue way back then 😳 ).
Sometimes I’d like to use it (I could in Orion and Reaper), but there is the freebie-converter from VB audio or similar (forgot the name), and the reverb was more for offline work too because of the cpu-hunger.
So all in all agreed, no new DX-only-plugins came out since years it seems.

One thing that annoys me with folders: While you can drag a single plugin onto the main podium window and it makes a new track, you can’t do the same with a folder (Making a new set of track and subtracks) I don’t think… Which is to say, it hasn’t worked whenever I try.
Most interesting post, I didn’t try yet, but you always learn something from here 🙂 .

those are two of my favorites too!
..so I must have seen your name maybe at the Revalver-forum too, and Joe’s freebies are really nice stuff, is it :D. I once did a tiny little beta-testing for older stuff for him, and he is a real nice guy.

you do realize your quote is not my words?
you’re quite right, sam c. I just read a bunch of your posts (and as I said, learned a lot about what is there and what is not yet in Podium) and posted my opinion, and of course this is a minor thing and I’m not the pope 😀 or whoever. I just tested some hosts (if I remember your name right you own one of them too 🙂 ) and just answered with what I thought after reading them all. I am in no way against implementing new good stuff, and you seem to know many things about what could be good. cheers!

conquistador, that was an outstandingly helpful post.
thank you!
yes, it really is, for me too. In fact the sentences after “but….” (because many users already have their plugs categorised as we can choose from so many) would be a great help for beginners reading the wiki the first time…
I use this folder-feature to reduce the choices I have, say putting my most beloved guitar-ampsim (Revalver2) into the first choice folder, the next good ones (freeamp2 for example) in a B folder, and so on. Or sometimes I make a folder with really FEW plugins, including EnergyXT as vst, and if I decide to use others too I simply load up XT inside Podium and this one links to all plugins I have in my vst-folder:-). Not that I would need this procedure, but I know about that only after reading your post, conquistador 🙂
thanks very much for the answer 🙂 ! I already tried this or that and will look how the “inserting a tempo event” will work with Jamstix (which is quite new to me too for guitar recording, I only used it with synths up to now). The nice thing in Podium is you learn to see things from a different point of view after reading the manual. Nice!
So maybe there doesn’t seem to be an easy solution for this, or the question is not important for other users or not easy to achieve? I’ll just have a look into the other hosts I own to get this done, I think there are some workarounds in some, and I’ll use Podium for what it is for 🙂 .

Frits, I know where to click I just think it is critical that you change it!
Hi there, I read several posts of you and I learn from all. But I think there are many Podium users who bought Podium because of the workflow it HAS, plus the features that we will get in the future. I don’t think it is always a good point stating “this is implemented in all major hosts so you have to implement this” like you do in a few threads. The nice thing we have now is a bit of real variety to choose from in sequencer/daw/host-country…
Of course making things like this optional (if it was easy to implement for Frits) would please all 🙂 .
For me at least a very essential feature. There are many many users around who use or test (for example you can put new dlls into a certain folder for it then…) hundreds of free plugins. Or if you use Podium for a longer time (says the one who starts with it) you’ll surely appreciate a folder system to keep your works organized.
I still have the Audigy2PlatinumEX installed (because I used to use a soundfont editor that ran only with the card and because my Audiophile 2496 can just record one stereo input or 2 mono, the Audigy has more audio ins).
In case I need it I simply disable the not needed devices in the Podium audio/midi-settings. By the way the Synth A and Synth B devices work here just as good as the one you use (I sometimes load huge soundfonts in an old but much loved midi-editor with the Synth A as default, eg.). As Midi In I got 2 ins with my Audigy, and don’t ask me why, the 2nd is the one that works.
As you got it to work anyway, this isn’t the info you’d really needed, but cheers anyway 😆

Project Recovery – option to recall pre-saved undo list when restarting from crash/power failure.

Hi rinxai, seems I answer all of your posts now 😆 . This is a feature I found especially great in another host of the past that used to crash all of the time. Since that time I am a “save-maniac” and without even recognizing I seem to save every 4-5 minutes anyway. For me – well, as told, quite new here – Podium runs MUCH more stable than the old one (won’t tell names here), but just if any new things built in could be a bit difficult for stability I’d just say
“+1”
🙂
These all sound good for me (beginner here concerning Podium). As a workaround for arpeggiator and chords there are a few freeware-possibities I think, or if you own EnergyXT1 you could use the chord- and arpeg – functions of this one inside Podium.
As there are a lot of simple freeware samplers around, I am not so sure if the work for that would be worthwhile for Frits, but well, he knows best and of course in some future Podium might have ALL those features. It’s just not difficult to find samplers, Paax3CM in the mag, Shortcircuit free, sfz, and so many more, all are pretty good.
Your last sentence about the most important features seems to be what would new users attract for sure. For example, MidiFX support and timestretching is what some users expect in a host, but if they read a bit here they’d know that it will come for sure.
If I could ask a wish for the future I’d like to see a podium VST (= you can load it in another host) in some years :). But surely this is not really a new thought, and probably the pros and cons are already discussed somewhere here.
And just to add this in case some owners of the BEAT or CM – versions read this 🙂 , I just bought Podium and REALLY like the reverb. It is not included in the CM – version and it sounds better than most reverbs I have, and surely better than any other included in a sequencer or audio-editor I own. The zReverb is just great and versatile, and I will surely find out more about it as I just own it one day. Thanks!
