Sorry to resurrect this item, but I think an easier way to do this is how energyXT does it; which is to say, you can map an envelope (automation) track to the tempo! So you can just automate the tempo!!

I haven’t looked for the (for my way of music really sad and disappointing) EnergyXT2, but when I last looked this nice feature of XT1.41 was not integrated in V2 (like quite a lot of others, really unusual for a V2…but it was compiled in another coding language, and so difficulties arose)
But I agree, this is a very nice and convenient way of handling this, in case it would be not too difficult to integrate into Podium.

I can confirm this (after my nightmare with Vista and network-issues (solved with SP1 and a hotfix, more than a year after release of Vista).

I think another idea was to leave the last Win98-Podium available for download as one of the “elder versions” as soon as you might only use your new working-tool. WinXP was such a big step towards stability compared to 98, and I hope Podium will stay compatible with XP for quite a long time.

    Hi conquistador,

I just understood your posts right:-), and for me it is worthwhile to read because I get more than lousy results with my 10 days new laptop… The DR008-problem is gone, and your trick is even better (Angus from FXpansion explained the one I told).
My additional grieve is (Edirol UA25 as my old laptop was USB1.1, and an external usb2 HDD because the old had just 20GB HD;-)) that every 3 days or so NI-products de-activate themselves…. Grrrr…. I don’t know what it is. NI support said it is a VERY rare problem people have in Vista, indeed VERY rare. They said my machine seems not to generate an ID that isn’t changing. (???). Well i own soundforge and the challenge response, bad as it is, didn’t de-activate itself…

So I seem to have a fast machine (not 64bit or so of course) that gives me poorest results. And nobody has any help.

    1. shop: won’t take back the machine even in the first 14 days, because there is no hardware failure or CD-drive damage.

    2. NI: says I should re-activate again and again and send the files so that they could see what this more than strange problem is. That means you lose numbers every time, that is the only sense of “Challenge response”.

    3. HP support said: do a fresh install of the whole laptop and wait for
Service pack1. They said it was “3rd party problem”, NI, but I can’t even listen to music without crackles. And benchmark tests, chkdsk, “pc health tests” from HP themselves and so on show now mistake. There is a known Vista-bug that lets a “6to4” adapter not install, but that surely has not much to do with my problems.

all in all I got a new machine with nice specs, no virus, no trojan horse, that can’t run audiosoftware and de-activates my most expensive products. I just don’t want to bash vista, I would quite to the contrary wish it would be silently working. Sure, after 127 show-stoppers I tended to wish I had a working machine with Vista. Now I can’t do anything, every support leads me to the next, and nothing works. At least for internet and writing this is a nice machine:-(((. And I learnt, and indeed DID learn much, from various websites and from your really nice recommendations, Conquistador, what Vista is and how to make it fast. I just can’t see success following the – and I mean this – good advice.

cheers, and well, at home in 2 weeks I can go on making music and won’t write about bugs in software 😀 .

DR008 works well in Vista, after the UAC has been deactivated. So it is vista-compatible, and I think it is very good and still a bargain, so I mentioned it, mate. I think Podium is a wonderful software and so great for the money, so after some KVR-related mistakes (I thought I REALLY needed this, and this vsti…he he) i learnt that working stuff that is great is what musicians need. Be it older or the new hype and new.

Indeed, sam, that’s a very nice story :). I recommended Podium to quite a few people lately, most of those few who really tried it were VERY much impressed. Even if I use Reaper much too, I find that Podium and R are just wonderful programs!

I voted XP home as it is on my main music PC at home. But when abroad i now have a laptop with Vista home premium. It is the worst audio experience I ever had, but this has nothing to do with Podium. Even listening to some mp3s you recorded, or whatever audio, gives random-glitches and stuttering every 15-20 seconds. Reaktor uses more CPU with my new hp Turion64X2 2,2GHz with 3GB of RAM than my humble old laptop (AMD AthlonXP2200+, 704MB Ram, XP home) used – with the same Edirol UA25 card and the usual tweakings which are good for audio-production.
The audio glitches make musical work a real pain. There is an article about this here

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2008/jan/31/microsoft.technology which describes why Vista is worse than XP for certain users. Unluckily enough, for me too:-(.
So conquistador’s post above might be just great for me, in case it would include a workaround for all those Vista-audio-bugs for certain machines. I had hoped the drivers for my Edirol UA 25, especially for Vista 32 bit, would help, but no. As soon as my girlfriend’s old PC might “go to meet his makers;-) I’d immediately switch back to XP, using hers, as most laptops come with XPs that are just allowed to be used on the one and only machine.

By the way, another thanks from the heart for the Podium copy-protection!!! My challenge-response software is no fun if an OS is not good for you personally and so you have to reinstall your laptop often (like here, January the old laptop. then this week the new laptop with Vista, then maybe in a few weeks or as soon as I can get a not expensive XP a next time…and so on).

Interesting thread. Let’s see what next year will be….2010 we all might be on Windows 7, which is said to not be a bloated OS like Vista is- for me.

EDIT: did some short tests. With Rhino2, if you play a pad just using 5 fingers you can get Podium with my Vista home premium and the ??? bug after reading through conquistador’s very great advice-sites to 100%, audio drops, crackles for about 5 seconds, slowly comes back… ONE INSTANCE!!! Rhino2 is a very versatile synth, but from 2004…ran without the least problem on my very old Xp-laptop….:-(((. Same with Minimonsta. A real nightmare, and this after the “tweakings”, background services instead of programs mainly, but a few others. In fact those tweaks changed nothing for me. I just hope it will be better in 1 year for me, as now this is an unuseable Vista for me. Better improve my playing skills without laptop and waiting for making music when at home with my XP Pc. March 15 seems to be the day for SP1 to come out, with more than 100 bugfixes. Nice for all who have a good system with Vista, but there are MANY tales from people who simply run into horrible problems.

…and concerning loading the vsts and vstis everything is quite like with older versions here too. I got a real bunch of effects and synths (with all the freebies) and the only one “in quarantaine” are aliensolo from cloneensemble and a little donation-ware – sampler from Smartelectronix called slifty. So everything seems to be allright, at least here.

Happily enough I can report that my QuantumFX2-plugins like the 1.97 beta well. I suspected some problems as a guitar-plugin I own has difficulties with them (Revalver Mk2), but all other hosts including the great Podium load them without difficulty. All plugins I tested work just like in 1.96 for me, so that’s great up to now. Must test the re-scanning/importing, not enough time up to now 🙂

I am really thankful for THIS addition, besides the other nice ones! I know it was not too difficult before, but for newbies like me a few weeks ago it will be much easier now, and many people make their own fxp and fxb, is it?. Thanks for the update!

Yes, Frits. And I can’t get rid of the fact that it is ME that is doing something wrong, as that never happened before with any synth. (scratch;-). I’ll just try again. In case you got Rhino2, I just noodled along with a preset called “vector1” of the factory 2.0bank. I can’t find the mistake.

edit: well I just sent you some files via e-mail. I can’t figure out what I did wrong, and the problem persists. With original same setup I can record midi without a problem in other hosts. ❓ ❓ Something I might have changed without noticing it? See your e-mail, if you got some spare time, Frits. Thank you!

Hi, I don’t know about his Wusik-presets, but own Wusikstation 4, so will check them out::-). It’s the ugo that released those fantastic free synths, and the effect “metallurgy” cheap, with which you can make really nice strange sounds… And he did a lot more, including many presets for many vstis. All great works!
