Dropped back in to find that the developer is making some changes to the mixer already… that’s what I call responsive. Impressive.

    Just to be clear…

I wasn’t knocking Podium at all. I fell in love with it at first sight. I still don’t quite 100% get the heiarchy but I’m working on it… it does make sense on a lower level to me but on a visual level it’s a little confusing for me. As a longtime engineer I can go to just about any studio (with just about any daw), and once I put the mixer up on the screen I can get to work in a matter of minutes mixing, from top to bottom (or switching between)…

    – Input/Phase/Trim
    – DSP/EQ/Plugins
    – Sends (pre/post)
    – Pan
    – Faders/Solo/Mute/Automation Enable/Disable

This takes an entirely new skill set and an entirely new way of thinking. Not that’s it’s a bad thing, if it works it works. FWIW I have similar issues with Reaper as (like Podium) it currently has no extended mixer.

I’m keeping a close eye on this daw though. I still have a major crush on 😀

Definitely a step in the right direction. Thanks. Is this update posted?

I agree, I like the faders also. I just don’t like that in order to use them in the mixer you must be writing automation. I think he said he’s looking into changing that.

They are very nice looking so no, I wouldn’t change the appearance.

    Thank you.

I’m pleased that you took the comments in the correct spirit, that’s the sign of a true professional. If was redundant in some of my comments (and I was) it was because before I was playing with it on a at home and today I loaded it in the studio and tried to mix a song in it as I would normally do in one of the other daws I use.

Some of those things (while admittedly redundant to comments I’ve already made in other threads) were much more glaringly apparent.
Aand my disappointment was much greater since Podium looks FANTASTIC on my 30′ Gateway HD widescreen monitor in the studio runni at 1680×1050. Boy… now THAT’s what a daw GUI should look like.

Good luck to you in continued development. Podium has GREAT potential.

BTW, that audio eraser tool is fantastic. I haven’t seen one quite like that before. Great job.

I’d like an option to just hide them completely. Is that possible or feasible? Maybe just slide them behind the main audio channel where they’re out of sight or something.

I just don’t want to see channels representing plugins in the mixer… just a button to get to the chain when I need to. On larger project there will be too many mixer channels to contend with already without all of those.

    Thanks for the reply.

Each individual channel? I can’t find that. I used the “Hide
Tracks in Group” menu item and it hid everything to the right of the plugin, the actual audio track on the right gets minimized.

Also, a plugin channel on the mixer that’s displaying metering and all that, is there a way to actually launch the plugin from there for tweaking? You’d think that since that channel represents a single plugin (and only that single plugin) I could double-click it or something to edit the plugin. Or am I missing something?

I love the UI and I want to love the application. Help me understand it.

    I see.

I really like the interface, it’s superb. The graphics, the layout, the sliding panels… really cool. The plugin chain thing though is… awkward.

I have three audio tracks loaded currently with a couple of plugs and it turns into 5 mixer channels. In a 24 track project I could see how managing that many layers of mixer channels just to have insert plugins could be a little difficult.

I feel like one of the most exciting UI’s I’ve ever seen on a daw is wasted on me due to this. I’ll like it much better when the zMatrix thing is implemented. Especially if I don’t have to look at every insert plugin as a track in the mixer.

As it is now it’s not viable for me. Why do I need to see 5 sets of stereo meters in the mixer for one audio track with 4 plugins? That seems like a waste. It also seems that adding a fader to an audio track enables automation, that you can’t use a fader to adjust levels without writing automation?

Daws drive me nuts… this one has the SWEETEST UI out there, but was disappointing for me in some of the choices made.

I’ll keep an eye on it though.

Ok, I get it. I was able to add FX by dropping on the edge as was described. Cool.

So you’re telling me that all those are actually seperate tracks?

Tell me about the zGrid… not familiar with that.
