Holy Crap – that’s it! I turned audio outs for the sequence tracks on when I was fumbling about, and forgot to turn them back off again.
I owe you a cup of coffee, sir – you’ve made my day!
Thanks for that, thcilnnahoj. I’m with you to that point, but what’s throwing me is that I get sound from both the sequence track, AND the output track, so everything is twice as loud as it should be. I’m getting around it for now by turning one or the other all the way down (it doesn’t seem to matter which) and just controlling the mix from the one that’s still up. Or, I see now that I can mute the output track and just get sound from the sequence track (but not the other way around).
I’m going to ammend that – I finally figured out that I’ve been watching the wrong tutorial – multiple OUTS instead of multi-TIMBRE.
My bad.
I still don’t think I have it set quite right though – something about the outputs in the VST itself is throwing me. Anybody who’s been using this thing successfully, I could use some help!
My vote is… “No. I think its very easy to use. No need to make any changes”, but I’ll qualify “easy”. Did I find it intuitive when I first started? No, it took some time (though not much, maybe a few hours of use). Once I fugured it out however, I find it quite easy, and I prefer it to any other DAW I’ve tried – that’s why I use it.
It always seems odd to me when someone says, “I wish Poduim was more like DAW X”. I see Podium as the alternative to DAW X. If I wanted DAW X, that’s the one I would use. I know, some will say “take what works in DAW X, Y and Z and put them together”, but I like the fact that Podium has its’ own way of doing things, for those of us that don’t like X, Y, or Z.
It seems that your question answers itself – when you want a zoomed-in view, use the non-embedded editor, when you want it locked to the arrangement, use the embedded editor – that’s why they’re both there.
I use the embedded editor if I’m jumping between parts quickly, say I want to change a rhythm that’s in more than one part. That way, I don’t have to find the right measure every time I open a window, they’re all locked in. I use the dedicated editor window if I know I’m only going to be working with one track for a while.
I like having the two methods available, depending on what kind of “mode” I’m working in. 😀
OK, cool, thanks for the quick reply!
@DFusion – thanks for the template, unfortunately I’m using an old version of Podium and can’t open it 😳 (what can I say, it’s never broke, so I never fix it!). When I finally get brave enough to upgrade, I’ll check it out for sure.
Yeah, lots of good stuff there – I used to drool over E-MU hardware when I first got into recording music. I recognize lots of the sounds from those days.
Also, it’s finally given me a reason do delve into how multi-channel plugins work with Podium – makes for some good late-night reading!
Wow, quick and easy, thanks!
